i have the stanton spin cycle pack, pretty crappy
yea torque is terrible on them, i small rings of paper under the records to reduce friction

for me it was either go cheap or go all out technics, i chose to do the former cuz i didn't feel like spending all that money, i'll proly end up getting technics later so like wat most ppl say, buy technics cuz then u won't ever need to upgrade

Durden,

Seems like you made a good choice going with the ST-100's. I have them and they are solid. Just take care of your stuff and it will last a long time. Let me know about the SMX-401 I was looking to pick one up. It has a dip in volume as you move the Xfader to the center (so most people have been saying) but since I never use the Xfader it shouldn't be a problem. Anyway good buy and have fun.

It certainly does, and I don't particularly care for that feature, but I'll learn to live with it. A chap here in town is helping me get started off on the right foot. BTW, the t/t's came in today!

How do you like the ST 100 so far and how are the rest of the features on the SMX? EQ,sound, etc. etc. I was reading on another forum, somebody explained that the SMX has been set to have a -3db fade when the Xfader is in the middle because with the interfacing of sound between the two channels a +3db occurs and causes distortion in the sound. so stanton took it upon themselves to implement this curve into that mixer to reduce overloading signals. Or something like that seems to technical for me anyways it can be bypassed by adjusting channel levels and gains,,Basically just f*ckin with it PEACE

I've not picked up cartridges, etc. for the t/t's. They seem to be solidly built, much heavier than I'd expected, and well made. I've only had the SMX hooked up once to a friend's gear. As you may have gathered, I'm picking things up piece by piece. As for the mixer, the only beef I have with it is the xfader. As for the "fix" that Stanton implemented to get around the quirk you mentioned... sounds like a hack to me. At any rate, thanks much for the info. I'm very new to this sort of thing, but I'm learning. The information in this forum has been quite helpful. Thanks again!
