This is a waste of time to be quite frank.

The mods of this board recomend to Swamper who they think should be a mod of a forum and I'm afraid there is no way someone who had been previously suspended from the boards is gonna be a mod
That would apply for example in melech_mikes case.

The current mods are active here, the main active mod here being Blik and we DO keep an eye on you.
But as this is a complicated forum with many cultures and beliefs and passions involved it will get heated.

This we knew when the forum was 1st introduced to TA and it was understood that those wishing to post in this forum should also be aware of the fact that they could get flamed for thier belief, just read the forum description . . .

Our main concern here is that there is no racisim, that will NOT be tolerated under any circumstances!

if you feel a mod has overlooked an issue then PM one of the mods of this forum and they will look into it.

So much for democracy. Ah, well, at least you've shown that you do visit the forum from time to time.

And btw, mike's nomination was supposed to be a joke.

it is actually a "responsible job" to moderate, Mike's nomination is silly

the problem with this forum is that you have got to have a great knowledge about certain things. That's why it seems like the mods don't moderate this forum, but we do try.

and the mods are already talking about getting a new mod for this forum, someone who has the knowledge and reacts calm in every object.

be calm and you will see

It was????

Well, I think we have accomplished something in that perhaps the mods will be somewhat less tolerant of the constant, petty bickering that's been going on. It's not like we need a mod 24/7 ... asides from the usual suspects, the forums haven't been too bad as of late.

Right, the "mods" keep an eye on us. I think there's a common misconception of the word moderator: A moderator should..em..right! moderate. Meaning that he should intervene way before a situation totally escalates. He shouldn't be the one who finally closes or ends things but ought to be there, in time, to prevent conflicts from getting out of control in the first place. This means he must be totally aware of any POTENTIAL flame-orgies, realizing that a thread is already fucked and destroyed doesn't require that many skills. I don't udnerstand you mods: I have absolutely nothing against you and totally udnerstand if u cant be here that often since u also have other things to control, so why do u insist on this very position here when you know there are people in this area who dedicate much more time to this place and could detect the things I mentioned above. They could *immediately* react instead of stepping in when it's too late anyway. Firstly because of the greater amount of time they spend here and secondly due to the fact that they already know each member and topics which could lead to escalation. Tjey simply "live" the debates on here and could therefore do a great job in improving the atmosphere on here. Once you have some kind of hierarchy, some "respect" person, you will more easily adjust your behavior accordingly.

End of rant.

Well, although I would like the mods to visit here a little bit more often, I wouldn't really want them to baby us and control the threads so to speak. There's no reason for us to wear kid gloves in here, we're all adults. If we think another person's argument is idiotic then I feel that we should have the right to express that opinion. I don't think moderators should necessarily step in at that point and tell us to play nice like we're a bunch of children. But some behaviour definetely could use more mod interaction. Thread spamming being one of them, those marathon flame threads between the Palestinain/Israeli camps, and posts made with the intent to merely attack and provoke a person rather than actually discuss the issue come to mind. I think that when the threads degenerate into becoming personal attack, after personal attack, etc., with the issue originally being discussed being left behind pages ago, then closures/warnings should ensue. However, little spats like Yoepus vs. Tathi were relatively ok imo.

But however the mods decide to do it, I just want them to be fair (and they have been as of late). I kind of complained about the issue of fairness months back, and I would still prioritize that over anything else. If they're going to be relatively lax with the forum and only mod when things get completely out of control, or if they're going to heavily moderate the forums, I would just want them to apply equal treatment to all violators.

LOL

It's kinda hard to explain this but as said by occrider, we don't want to baby you, as adults you should not need telling to play nice, the majority of the time this forum is fairly self governing but occasionly it does need a mod to step in and say OK enough is enough.

This forum is about politics so you should apply the basic rules of politics to it, you debate and argue your issues but you all should have a basic respect for each other, sure you are passionate about your beliefs and wish to stand up for them but there is always certain protocols employed in politics.

Do suspensions typically last a set amount of time, or are they just determined by the mods? Asides from Mike's most recent brainfart, I thought he was actually doing pretty good in trying to avoid the typical flamewars that plague the Israeli/Pal discussions. There have definetely been some guiltier parties. I would like to see him back here after he's learned his anti-spamming lesson . Besides, who's going to maintain the honest reporting thread?
