Thankyou for telling me the cold hard truth. Yes, i understand that DJ Doboy just mixes a few(about 12 at the most, and those are some of his longest mixes too) mp3s together on his computer. But if it werent for him, i would never even have the motivation to look into DJing. Without him, i wouldnt of heard anything by Alice Deejay or Real McCoy(Ok, so Better off Alone was in a map for a game i have, but still!). And i will look into getting various songs by the DJs that you mentioned. Now the only problem i face is trying to recreate some of the electronic noises found in trance so i can make mixes truly customized. Hey, anyone know what the kind of "beep" sound is thats in the beginning of Will I Ever, by Alice Deejay is? I know you may hate me because i like Alice Deejay songs, but does anyone know how to recreate that sound? Or is their some place that sells vinyls that have various music effects on them? If so, i would be kinda happy if you could direct me to one.

ok, this kid has been bashed and flamed enough. i think its cool that he is interested in djing at such a young age, and if he starts now, or soon, he could be really good by the time he's actually old enough to get into clubs. when i was in the 7th grade i was trading baseball and generally just acting retarded. i didnt even know what trance (or any electronic music) was back then.
Badger, your 12, you have plenty of time to expand your musical tastes and explore other djs and producers work. judging by your favorite songs, there is no time like the present. music is a really personal thing. if your really into alice deejay and real macoy, thats......ok. but puh-leeze dont stop there, theres tons of good music out there, and you have the internet. find it. i dont mean download 10gigs worth of mp3s but use the web and track down some tunes.
as for being able to recreate the sounds you hear in trance songs.....i have no idea. maybe you can use a sampler or a synth. i know that if you buy a production program like Reason, it comes with tons of sounds and samples that you can use to make music or remix songs.

okay enough bashing now, I think he's got it by now...
okay so now to the confession, when I was around 12-14 I also listened to artists like alice deejay, scooter and such (I'm 18 now) and I think that badgers taste will grow into better stuff
badger: as the others said, try to get some livesets from folks like armin van buuren, tiesto, ferry, jon o bir and on and on and on
also try to tune in on Armin van Buurens radioshow "a state of trance" every thursday (ets-global broadcasts it every thursday, read more on www.ets-global.org).
on that show armin plays the newest tunes out so that gives you a good perspective on the good stuff out there
other than this I think that you should be ready to give this time...don't rush anything. if you wan't out on gigs then make shure you play at least 1-2 hours every day and most important, don't ever give up!
your mixes will sound like crap the first months but if you just hang in there you will improve really good
I'm going to be hones with ya, your'e only 12 years old, if you keep practicing every day you won't have any problems geting gigs at clubs when your'e around 18-19 years old but before that age I wouldn't rush on getting gigs, you have your whole life before you!

who da fuk is dj doboy?
i think its fantastic that ur interested in mixing at such a young age. i dont mean to get ur hopes up, but its bout that age that many of the international stars started. fergie, avb etc. etc. [i cant think of anymore =p] but first and foremost, ensure ur in it for the right reason mate. make sure its not a "fad" which many things are during the teen years. it really is too expensive to be a fad. take some timeout, learn about whatever music it is that's tickling ur fancy. actually, it shouldn't just tickle, it should grasp your heart, pound it hard to take ur breath away. take half a year, a year, or hey, maybe 2 to explore. educate urself. if you find out u love a genre enough, u'll want to share it, and that, my friend, is when u consider gettin urself a pair decks

Yea, djdoboy.com still is his site. Its really cheezy actually. Just a blue background with links to his mixes list, to contact him, and some pics of his car. Stupid site, but he does have a way of putting his tunes together. And incase your wondering, i turn 13 next month(the 17th to be exact), and i foolishly volunteered myself to DJ at Redcon '06. Its just a big redwall convention in chicago, and im just gonna have a few TTs up somewhere, just dashing back to them when the vinyls come to an end. But at night, thats when the real DJing starts . And i am looking into getting some mp3s or something by the DJs that you recommended to me. Any mixes in particular that i should listen too so i can get a good idea of what decent trance sounds like?

Here's a list of sets I think you should get
avb asot 100
avb - eau 3-18-00
avb - sensation white 7-6-03
Sasha - St.Ives Dance Party
Oakenfold - Space, Ibiza
Gabriel & Dresden - Essential Mix
pvd @ home, casino and rosenmontags 2002
tiesto in concert
just dashing back to them when the vinyls come to an end
If you're DJing for them you're not gonna leave the dex. You'll be firstly picking a song that goes into the current track, then beatmatching the tracks then mixing/blending the tracks. No time to stuff around. Mind you I've seen a few ppl DASH to the toilets really quickly, always funny
