yeah it pisses me off when people say that trance or techno is very repetitive, its just bump bump bump bump over and over again...yet these are the same people that are dave matthews band fans, who have every single one of his imports, bootleg and live Cds and goes to all of his concerts.

Im not bashing DMB, i highly respect his talent and all of the other musicians in the band..but im saying that his music can sound the same, knowwhatimean?

Oh and btw I quoted u Galapidate coz it reminded me of this time i was DJing at my friends Fraternity party, it was advertised as a club night so i dropped some wicked trance tunes. This drunk girl came up to me while i was spinning and asked if I could put some "hip-hop" on. I said "sure, right after this track" she smiled, said thank u and walked away and then I just kept spinning trance. No hip hop! LMAO

We all started seeing things differently. Everywhere we went, we were sizing things up.

They hold hand grips. Jack looks up an ADVERTISEMENT; a CALVIN KLEIN ad featuring a tan, bare-chested MUSCLE STUD.

I felt sorry for the guys packing into gyms, trying to look like Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger said they should.

Is that how a man looks like?

Tyler looks at the C.K. advertisement and laughs.

Ahh, self-improvement is masturbation. And self-destruction...

Haha, way to go! On another note, DMB sucks. He's got the worst voice I've ever heard in the music business.

^^ soo true. My high school is pretty much every cliche HS.
All the kids listen to hip hop and rock, which i respect but when they say everything i listen to is "techno" is just annoys the shit outta me.

"its so repetitive"
"anyone can make those sounds"
"you cant dance to it"
"yea i love 'techno'"

four most used phrases. and sadly theres only a handful at my school that really know what this music is. i like being different from the rest.

I'm workin with my school to try to get different DJs to spin different music genres at school so we can fill everyone's needs than just hip hop. Hopefully i can show them what this music means to us and get some to convert

I say that shit all the time. Or if they'll request a certain shitty song I'll say 'Oh sure I'll play that' and never do it.

usually when someone says this to me, i either tell them to listen to a hip-hop instrumental or ask them what a chorus is.

I get a nice smug smile on my face when somebody starts inquiring about my music tastes and i respond very vaguely saying something like "dance music" and then there eyes get a bit bigger for a moment or two, something clicks, and they ask, much to their dilettante discredit "Oh, that techno stuff?" pause briefly and then add "yeah i listen to some of that", to which i most politely respond "Oh I don't think you would like 'real' techno (lots of emphasis on real), it's quite different than what you think." Usually the subject is dropped right then and there because they note i've seen through their thinly veiled smoke screen of knowledge. On ocassion people do ask what "real" techno is, mockingly of course, as if they knew the proper definition, and I explain (incorrectly perhaps) "it's higher-speed dance music that focuses/emphasizes (on) percussive sounds/loops more than the melody, generally."

I think people of my age group (high school kids), generally, tend to be very shallow in their musical tastes, and are taken aback by the fact I don't listen to "rap" (or, technically, the term they use now is "hip-hop" although all they listen to is "rap") or $current_hot_prog_pop_rock_band_of_this_quarter.
