Maybe not directly, but if you look into it you see RIAA is right there at the top of the food chain, controlling a lot of the music you hear, including most EDM lables.

Do/would you pay to listen to "real" radio? |
Land based radio is free mainly because you have to sit through 3, 4 sometimes 5 minutes of commercials (ick ). Plus the cost of getting it to you the listner is pretty damn cheap.
I must say it is disappointing, but people must now look at it as a business. I don't really like the way they are making the listeners feel guilty for not being premium and supporting them. Either you are going to run a business, or you are going to remain the way you were, pleasing the listeners with music they like for free. This is now sink or swim time. Listners should not sign up for premium just because of the past and loyalty. This is now, and DI's product should be what is the selling point, not that the owner is struggling to make payments. Quit expanding if that is the case.
I used to listen to DI for hours at a time. For about a year now I only tune into to Oslo Nights, and the odd set I find playing. Nothing else. So I would be pretty dumb to subscribe to a station I listen to 3 - 4 times a month.
