DJSlain...I respect your decision to not do drugs; but you have a very clouded perspective on them.

If you're so against them, then you should stop listening to trance, and any other great form of music and move to pop. Every great musician has toked; and I bet you many songs that they created were done while they were on something.

Ok so i dont live anywhere near canda, but i have a slight problem with this quote

quote:
Marijuana advocates are encouraging pot smokers in Ontario to enjoy their new-found freedom. "The people of Ontario should be celebrating this monumental victory!" said Marc Emery of the BC Marijuana party. "Anywhere you can smoke tobacco, they should be smoking marijuana."

I mean WTF, anywhere you can smoke tobacco you should now smoke weed? Thats just wrong. I really woudnt like it if some idiot lit a joint at a table next to me in a restaurant while i was eating my lucnh or dinner, in fact i would probably make him eat that shit (his weed not my lunch ) Yes i am a little intolerant, and i know most non smokers woul agree with me (went trough these kind of discussions on a lot of other forums ). While some of us can tolerate cigarette smoke to some level, weed just stinks and sadly not all places have special sectisons for smokers and nosmokers. God damn it weed even stinks up the fresh air, i cant even walk in the park with a friend on friday or saturday night if i dont want to get sick and high becouse of the smoke Its even worse at the clubs where you dont even need a moke amchine becouse the guest provide it when they smoke weed

OK sorry i went way of toppic with my rant but its been building up in me for a while

What i wanted to say before i started writing off tpic shit is im not against weed usage for medical reasons. Hey if a person with aids says it eases his pain then he can smoke it only i hope he does it when he wont bother other people. As for the kids that just want to get high...fuck them, ive seen to many bad shit happens becouse people wore high on weed

Correct sir...I hate to say it but drugs do enhance your creativity. You'd be scared to know how many great songs and great movies have come from drugs.

America is fighting a losing war against drugs.

Statistics of drug-related deaths, and hard-drug use are consistently higher in the US than in Holland... Policy-makers in Holladn have realised that drugs are an unavoidable part of modern society and that the "war on drugs" is unwinnable (even the death penalty isn't enough to deter people). The evil is not the drugs themselves but the harms they cause society, that's why it's called a "harm minimalisation" approach. In the US junkies are criminals and drug addiction is treated as a crime. In countries like Holland they are treated as sick people, and addiction is seen as a health problem.

Who cares about power? What should really matter for most citizens is living standards - In this area Holland always beats the US.

You do realize that marijuana use is higher in America than in Holland?

And please tell me how spending billions of dollars on drug prevention is more worthwhile than putting a roof over everyone that is homeless, feeding those who are starving, providing a job for those on welfare, providing health care for those who cannot afford it...need I go on? Not to mention the amount of money they would MAKE, instead of spend, on the tax revenue alone.

My main argument for legalizing pot (And no I don't smoke it) is one thing...is it honestly any worse than alcohol? Nowhere even close.

well said.

There's better things for a government to spend money on than chasing around teenagers with a few grams of weed... Judges are tossing out cases involving teenagers and small possession of weed anyway. It simply costs too much when you consider paying police to find and arrest them, the trial, and the cost of holding the individual in jail. Also, now the police can focus on the dealers that push the stuff on to the little kids, and fines for growing will be doubled.

Sometimes a government can't control everything, and just let people be people sometimes.

well, i'm back from my friends house, so i'm ready to tackle this issue again.
let's get started:

quote:

no offense but i think only a dumbass would admit doing drugs at a job interview.

If weed is greater than the second coming of jesus, why would u lie about it to an employer about it? In fact, shouldn't he give u double dragon challenge skill points for using marijuana? OMG, does having a history of drug use/abuse/experience actually affect your chances of getting a job??? Don't worry, your employer who puts his full confidence and trust into your duties will be fine with you putting some lies in the application. What happens to people when they lie about having spent some time in prison?

and your country will delete the word "homeless" and "poor" from their dictionary when marijuana is legalized? I'm sure there is a high percentage of homeless people that got screwed over in their addiction to drugs. Wife didn't like his drugs, KICKED OUT. Employer didn't like their employers drug use, FIRED. Hell, come to San Diego and tell me how many homeless people here are "crazy" because they haven't had their fix in a while. "fuck fuck fuck, i'm twitchin 'cus i don't have my fix"

quote:

u mean like the "let the bodies hit the floor" guys?

well, i'll tackle some more issues later. But just remember about the Fortune 500.

for fuck sakes people lie to get ahead in the work world all the time. have you ever lied to get something you wanted? say your a 25 year old with a degree in business applying for a fortune 500 company. you smoked some pot in college. big fucking deal. if the question even comes up about drug use, of course the guy is going to say no. no one said marijuana was this all godly drug man. we're just saying that you shouldn't base something like a job if a kid smoked a little weed here and there.

secondly...there are tweakers everywhere. its just the way life is. they have more seious problems than you and i. i dont think they need their 'weed' fix to get by in life. we are talking about meth, speed, and heroin addiction. none of which i see getting decriminalized any time soon. just because its decriminalized doesnt mean everyone will start smoking it. there are always going to be people against it (like yourself) and people whp are afraid. no one is saying the world is going to be a better place, but armageddon isnt going to happen if its decriminalized.

A-fucking-men.

Now djslain, I know this is an obscenely wrong concept to you, but just consider it:

The United States government legalizes marijuana. They sanction the growth of it and hire growers to cultivate, harvest and maintain the crops. Of course in this scenario the government would sell only the highest quality product because if they didn't, people would still go to independant growers. The government could then tax the product like they do tobacco and alcohol, and make ridiculous amounts of money on it. This would create a large amount of jobs for growers, maintenance, security, etc.

Then, by decriminalizing marijuana, the police could stop bumbling around wasting alot of their time and resources fighting that evil guy who owns an ounce of weed just because he likes to chill out once in a while. They could take the hundreds of thousands of persons in prison for marijuana related crimes and allow them to become productive members of society. Instead of spending billions of dollars taking care of these people, feeding them 3 meals a day, they could actually *gasp* go out and get a job, become a stimulus to the economy, and do something with themselves. And god forbid, they could go home and smoke a joint after a long day!

Then - with the billions of dollars the government would be a) making on sales and taxes b) saving on taking care of countless criminals c) getting replenished into the economy by increased productivity and sales in general - they could focus on actually helping those whose lives have been negatively affected by drugs. Instead of throwing that coke addict in jail, they could afford to put them in a rehabilitation facility and attempt to clean his life up. Maybe that guy who lost his job because he got addicted to meth? He could go through a detoxification session and be put back on his feet.

And if there's some money left over - we could look at doing things like increasing inner city awareness for drug abuse and addiction. By decreasing class sizes in schools. By feeding our poor and getting them off the streets. Etc, etc, etc ...

Okay, now this is obviously an ideal situation. Not all those rehabbed will end up successful and contributing, some will go back to prison. Some of those released from prison will go out and commit a crime again, but if it is of necessity, they will be jailed again. Nothing is perfect, but look at the possible benefits:

A) A huge $ benefit for the government
B) Creation of large numbers of jobs
C) Economic stimulus
D) Free up jail facilities for real crimes
E) Focus policing on more pressing issues
F) Improving the lives of those who have been affected by drugs
G) General societal improvement

Now I know several of you will disgree with me, this is just what I think.

And no, I am not a pot smoker.
