Trypsin is right.
U will need a stereo to hook it up to, either that or get a cheap assed mixer @ radio Shack(like $20) so u can use headphones instead.

Did you not hear the guy? He only wants to listen to his vinyls, not mix.

Yeah yeah yeah.... so?

I started out that way too.... why else do you BUY vinyl? trust me, he says he only wants to listen, but by buying vinyl and being on TA, it will soon lead to mixing at one point, even if its just for fun in his room.... so why not buy a "pak"??? Trust me, you can only "listen" for so long - then at one point you want to experience playing around with it.... i've seen this a million times.

Why else would you buy vinyl these days?

Just chillax dude!

see thats why i didn't want to get tables to just listen..or get talbes that are like 1200 bucks..i just want to experiement. Ya buying vinyl is a waste of money if you're just going to listen man, think about it, you can barely hear the difference between cd and vinyl if you have average speakers.

exactly....

another good point is that say FastDJMP3 buys the "battle pak" or whatever its called... and say he ends up NOT using the mixer and other table - he could sell it to a friend who wants to do the same thing... no biggie!

BUT, if he bought JUST a home TT belt-drive crapper, and later decided he DID want to get a second one down the road for shits and giggles, then he'd have to start ALL over...

..just playin it safe dude!

Jah,
don't worry what the others are saying.... take it from me, a person who has BOTH a "battle pak" and a set of 1200's... i started out the same way 4-5 years ago much the way you guys are now.....

I bought a "battle pak" and it served me well for 2-3 years until i finally could afford the 1200's...

Bottom line: its a great way to start out - you can always upgrade later. Unless you have a LOT of money now, there is no point in getting the 1200's right off the bat (again, unless money isn't an issue - but it obviously is, based on this thread...)

The battle paks work well for a couple of years at least, and chances are thats all you'll need them for. I'm not a salesman , just trying to help you guys out like i had someone help me out!

Cheers!

Be Cool! Ohhhhhhhhhh I know

K .......Don't listen to anybody.........listen to me

go to the pawn shop......pick up whatever kinda turntables he's got,
don't buy a mixer.......you need two amps and hook your turntables up to them....and mix the records using the volume control

Well, ABTSportsLine & others, listen to this:

I'm in a similar situation. I also want to buy turntables and records, just to get a feel for the vinyl. UNLIKE others, however, I DO want to be able to mix and do pitch-control, because I actually want to try mixing, as well.

I DON'T want to make a big investment, and what you said about the "paks" is interesting. BUT, I already have a mixer: Gemini BPM-150, and an excellent audio-system (Dolby digital, amplifier/receiver and 5 speakers).

So, all I want is a double-turntable. Can I buy something like that for a cheap price, for experimenting?
