That's absolutely true. That's like putting a lock, and chain on him, and restricting him. So, snare rolls, and reverse cymbals/crashes are forbidden?!!?!

I'll be honest - I wasn't too much of a fan of the Lightworks sound early on in the year, but after Merivia, it grew on me. Lately, Wim's style has been improving, and he can only improve more and more.

At times, the 'Icone' sound does sound a bit familiar to me (borrowing many elements from todays uplifting trance) but I do understand this is what you like. This music is your style, and don't change if you feel 'forced' to. Some people experiment, and dabble with many styles, which is good and bad depending on how the artist(s) accomplish this.

An example of this: if an artist has a particular sound, with a fan base, neglects that sound, and works with another style perhaps they will lose that fan base with the changed sound, thus leaving the fans dissapointed. Artists I can think of, that have done this.

Outkast (A U.S. Hip-Hop group from ATL - now released a double disc, which is getting great reviews from some, and shunned by some fans because the sounds are too unorthadox)

Metallica (We all know that in the Black Album "It Doesn't Really Matter" was a soft song. Due to the fact that plenty of Metallica fans loved it's hardcore feel, they cussed, and spat on Metallica after they heard 'violins, and strings' in their hit single.)

Change of style is good, or bad to listeners. You may lose some fans, but you may get some new fans, who like this new 'change'.

My point - Wim, do what you gotta do, don't change, or kneel down under pressure, or else everything you do afterwards is more contrived and unnatural.

Keep up the good work in that respect! -Mental

This is sheer quality.

I don't understand why people are saying it's not necessarily good that it sounds 'icone-ish'. Isn't that a sweet thing when people start recognizing your sound? You can pick a Scot Project, SHOKK, or PVD track out from awhile away but you don't hear too many folks saying it's the same old sound...although with Scot Project I dunno
True enough people have to add new thing to expand their sound, and I think as someone mentioned that's what happening with Icone tracks..so all in all, nice job. This tune is total pro and very well done.

Wim,

Whatever u do, DO NOT lose this sound that u have made...

Its a sound that uve worked hard on and it really does work, the right blend of energy, power, emotion etc..

Just because some individuals are tired of the 'icone sound' is no reason to change

Music for the masses mate, not the individuals and i can safely say that there are a lot more ppl happy with the sound u have and not tired of it

Its only a matter of time before a number of your tracks are picked up by the big players on the trance scene.

Wim

You're welcome to say what you want mate

Please tell me what's wrong with the square synth? I heard someone else say they were 'underused' in trance - it gave me this idea.

I can totally understand some who say the Icone sound may be getting old, I've thought the same thing about some other professional artists.

But my personal opinion, is the "Icone sound" is probably my favorite on these forums. If you experiment under different aliases, that would be wonderful. But please please Wim, don't stray from your current sound. I'm absolutely floored by all of your tracks. It's honestly damn near perfect according to the trance I like to hear. Uplifting, yet a powerful underlying melody.

The sample is such a tease, the break sounds great, but I'm anxious to hear the entire track. Keep up the great work Wim, and always do what you want to do, not what you think people will like.

That wasn't my point, actually, I just elaborated it badly.

As I told Wim in PM, all artists should have some kind of a style. But you must also be able to update that style and bring variation to the game. You can sound different and the same at the same time, although it might not always be easy.

Edit:
But like I said to Wim earlier - he shouldn't change his style just because I want to because after all it's just an opinion of one man.

So true though, but of coures there's that universal problem -

Choice. Maybe he doesn't wanna change? Well, you are entitled to your opinion Mr.Mystery, which I can't disagree with, since I dont' find a change in Lightworks style, but overall, like I said in my posts earlier, I don't think he should change. Some harsh words said by other posters, and I'm glad he's not as sensitive as Eugene.

If it were Eugene, he would've cussed out 15 people by now! LOL! So funny, how i bring him up when you come around. By the way, I find it hilarious. (But I know your not the reason why he left. He himself is the reason ) -Mental
