I am disappointed that PVD didn't get the top spot but the others in the top ten are pretty good. The only one that I truely think should be down further is Tiesto. The only reason that he got voted number 1 is that his name is recognizable. What a crock of shit.

And Oakie is slipping down the ranks and PVD has only one way to go.

I agree ... it's always the same top 10 DJs, but every year the order changes.

Paul van Dyk is my fav Trance DJ. To be very very very very honest with you ... I don't want him to become #1. Notice how things change with their efforts and track selection once they hit #1 ?

I think you have to take this "poll" for what it is - a popularity contest. No different than say voting for your favourite video on MuchMusic would be. It is not a guage or by any means a reflection of the DJ's technical skills, production work or their performance in any way. Right now Tiesto is doing all the right things in terms of winning out in the branding department which is key to having your name on the tongue of everyone in this scene. Everyone from the true music experts on TA to the ginos who know little to nothing - everyone knows the name Tiesto. Not as many people would identify Zabiela (who I'm surprised made it to 11 - but by all means deserving of it). Just look at the top 10 DJs - at least 6 have popular radio shows in UK/Europe and that alone is enough to snag a lot of votes from listeners. I think if we were to do a poll here, you'd see similar results with respect to Tiesto, PVD, Armin and Ferry. However I think people on here would give more credit to guys like Zabiela, Max Graham, Howells, Burridge and Lawler all who placed much farther down than they really deserve.

I think everyone has their own opinion of who's got the skills and who doesn't. Its just a poll and not an award ceremony so there's no governing body that judges based on criteria like technical skills, programming etc. Now that would be a proper way to credit DJs for their accomplishments through the year and not based on how well they got their name out there.

When you're the only DJ that gets ID&T to back a full stadium concert, 2 full length DVDs and a team of promoters/marketing agents...well you can't help but win a poll like this. No doubt he's done some great stuff for the scene but I think there's a number of DJs on and not on that list that deserve that spot based on what they've done this year.

I completely agree with Trigger, but as a 'newcomer' to the trance scene, I can only vote based on what I've been exposed too. I sit in front of my computer for at least 3 hours a day looking at stuff just related to trance, and I've never heard of the guys that were mentioned above (Zabiela, Max Graham, Howells, Burridge and Lawler), so based on my knowledge, I can vote for what I can get access to.

ASOT is easy to get a hold of, and because AvB broadcasts take no time to find (both live and MP3 sets), my own taste kinda conforms to what he plays. I download every set I can find, but mainly I find Tiesto, PvD, Ferry Corsten, that kinda stuff, so my opinion is based on that, which is prolly the case with many other people.

However, as DJ's, they've obviously done something right to be so popular that their stuff is easy to access. I know that I listen to a lot of streams online, but the extent of what I can get is also based on the webmaster who chooses what he wants to play (ex. E-vangelist will always play ASOT no matter what), so my listening also has some basis from his own favourites.

Lastly, this whole thing is a popularity contest. Just like Trigger said, from TA's to ginos (and even rockers I know who just recognize his name), Tiesto is known. He had his own concert, which nobody could match until Ferry recently, and constant support from ID-T. I thought Armin should win cause no-one else has a highly rated, weekly, good quality trance show like him, plus he released his own production CD, plus Universal Religion, and other great events. But whatever, there's always next year.

Long live Trance...
