DJ & CD's

I'm A DJ since 15 years. In 1987 I started playing only with CD's!
Since 1997 I'm resident DJ in a local club. 90% of the time I'm using
CD's! With the PIONEER CD players I'm doing the same mixings as with
turntables, only scratching is impossible. Instead I'm using a lot
the "loop" function.
It's not the the source (Vinyl or CD's or...) what makes a DJ good,
it's how he plays what is important.

Greetings,

Steven, resident DJ of Dancing L'Ouragan-Lessines Belgium

"In 1987 I started playing only with CD's! "

How did you mix with CD's in 1987? Was it possible to beatmatch cd's back then? Or did you just do some tricks with switching from one to the other instantly?

AH HA...there is a CD player that can scratch! (don't you just love technology?) Go to http://www.marsmusic.com/ select the DJ, lighting & karaoke tab then on the left side select CD players. Check out the specs on the Numark CDN-88 Dual "scratch" Cd player...and by the way, I agree with you 100% its the DJ not the Vinyl or CD's

I have that CD Player, and although it is of no use to me, the scratching definately works very well. It's a lot of fun to play with.

Smiley DJ Illegal?

Is it illegal to burn mp3's to CD's and use them in public? I dunno. I thought I heard that somewhere. If it's not then I'll probably buy a CD player and do it because there's alotta mp3's out there that are awesome, yet close to impossible to find on wax.

I'm not sure if it's illegal or not, but the police aren't hanging out in the clubs waiting for someone to play a burned cd, so I think you're safe.

And, if I were an artist, I'd want my song played as many places as possible so I could get a spot on a cd mix or get more exposure or just sell more vinyl.

Who's going to know if you purchased a CD, ripped it, mixed it using an MP3 mixer, then converted it back to .wav and burned it on a CD? Also, I agree with DJ AdamSmith...people want their music advertised - especially since its free advertisement.

CD Mixing in '87

"CD mixing in '87"

We didn't had pitch control or other possibilities to mix the tracks,
so it was not easy to do the "perfect mix" in those days. The way
we mixed was not so important in those days. It was the type of
music wich was very important. In 1990 we had finally the 1st
CD player with pitch control by Technics, but no pitch bend!
It was great fun experimenting with new stuff, like it still is now!

I know about the "scratching CD player" but my (old) Pioneer 500
doesn't has that feature!

Greetings,

Steven
