two summers ago i got really sick during the summer with mono. i had been out of town partying for 2 weeks strait. no sleep, drank pretty much the entire two weeks. came home and had my wisdom teeth pulled. then i was on antibiotics to prevent any bacterial infections along with the pain killers. i got incredibly sick and we changed antibiotics. i then came down with this horrible rash all over my body. i went to see the doctor, we did some blood tests and i got diagnosed with mono and the rash was a bad reaction from the antibiotics. for two weeks i was in bed. and i almost missed my trip to greece at the end of the summer.
about 6 months later at school, i had a relapse of the mono. i never felt sicker my entire life. for two weeks i didn't even have the energy to get out of bed. it was really really bad.
had tests done then and it took about 4 weeks for my white blood cell count to return to a normal level. i was freaking out i had HIV
May be the reason you got sick was the alcohol killed much of those white blood cells off?

i have 3 spots like this on my leg but not so nasty looking or manly looking, mind you. Never do a search on google for these images, they are gross and scary especially if you have the illness yourself! Oh, i've been doing some reading on it as well and it is most likely i got it because of having really sensitive dry skin on my legs and so it somehow triggered the infection while shaving. I guess i will have to frequent the salon more often.

Recurrent Necrotizing Fasciitis could be a sign of C4 deficiency, although I would assume your physician would have noted such when you had blood work done.
In terms of prevention, the most important thing is probably to be obsessive about providing antisepsis to even the most minor skin injuries. If the problem continues to recur, I've heard that long-term antimicrobial prophylaxis in the form of injections of benzathine penicillin every 2 to 4 weeks, or penicillin VK, erythromycin, or dicloxacillin at 250 mg twice daily are sometimes beneficial.
Best Wishes,
Arbiter

#1 alcohol never hurt anyone, and if anything a deficiency in that area is probably causing the problem.

Actually i did do a search for pictures of necrotizing faciitis for biology a year ago. My group had a poster full of pictures and info and the TA never posted our poster up Anyways, i should probably save myself from writing descriptions about later phases of the disease, as you probably know what it looks like
Anyways, best of luck and i hope the thing you have isn't painful.
