Why couldn't I have been one of the "now" big coffee giants that said...people will pay $4 for this....as they laugh their way to the bank....

This is only second worst to bottled water...now that's the biggest joke in the world. Not the 5 gallon type that you need if you have shitty ground water, but the "natural spring fresh glacier" water that's $2 a pint...and is bottled at someones tap....Suckahs.

There is a huge difference between a well made espresso and a mug of Nescafe. I can justify paying $3-4 AU for a good espresso, but certainly not for that starbucks flavoured-milkshake crap (face the facts people... it aint "real" coffee).

starbucks, in additions to their stores, markets the frapuccino drinks
those really aren't that good, and they're i think the flavoured-milkshake crap, and no it isn't real coffee at all, its just a step up from chocolate milk if anything
and starbucks does have good espresso
the thing that really bugs me is when people (not referring to you anymore astroboy, no worries) hate companies just cause they're big corporations
sure i'd like to support small local businesses sometimes, but when push comes to shove i just want the best product

i go to the local coffee shop for vanilla au lait's and blueberry muffins, and steamed cider too
i go to starbucks for peppermint mochas and chais

Totally dude. My uni is full of these anti-globalisation nuts... they really piss me off because 90% of them can't even justify their arguments and probably just protest because they didn't fit in at school and have finally found a clique in which they are accepted and feel powerful.

True for most goods, but not for products requiring art/skill. A chain wouldn't be able to compete with a master French chef for example. No more than an art franchise could compete with Picasso.
