exactly. Non human animals are not actually here for Humans use, and more often abuse. To justify killing something on the basis that, that was what it was born to do is ridiculous. Their is no good justification for killing animals to eat them. Its unhealthy, destroying the world and completelly unnecessary, and therefor immoral.

Look at what the idiotic Matrix movies have done...

That's not true at all:

Ameglian Major Cow:"Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I am the Dish of the Day. May I interest you in parts of my body?"

Cow: "May I urge you to try my liver, it must be very rich and tender by now, I have been force feeding it for months?"

Arthur: "Is there any reason why I shouldn’t have a green salad?"

Cow: "I know many vegetables who are very clear on that point sir, which was why it was decided to cut through that whole problem by breeding an animal that actually wanted to be eaten."

Zaphod: "Hey listen, we wanna eat, we don’t want to make a meal of the issues! We’ll have four rare stakes and hurry please!"

Cow: "A very wise choice, I’ll just nip off and shoot myself. Don’t worry, I’ll be very humane."

Anyway, I think we should just eat peta.

I don't know we did evolve to eat chickens, so how can you explain that?

Hmmm good point ... if it's not natural for us to eat animals, is it natural for fellow animals to eat animals? Reminds me of that far side cartoon where a lion accidentally bites into a tofu antelope.

you know the cows we eat today? or the cows we use for milking? those arent the cows that grew in the wild, those are cows that evolved by humans using selective breeding and cross breading to produce the 'best milker' or 'largest steak giver'. these pigs and sheep that exsist today would probably not have even exsisted had it not been for humans and the impact they've had on their evolution. so in a way yes, that is what they evolved for. Again i am agianst going to the wild and killing for pleasure or even food, but i consider farming animals almost as entirely man-made, just like the house we live in with a few big differences

This debate about the evolution of our diets reminds me of a paper I wrote about that topic during my undergrad years. It deals with how the diet we eat today is counter-evolutionary and is thought to cause the bulk of our current diseases. If anyone is interested, I can post it here. It's a little heady, but I tried to keep it as "dumbed" down as possible, as I believe it is best to write for the middle of the crowd, rather than the top or bottom. Let me know if you want, and I'll post it.

Anybody ever heard of the food chain? We're at the top of the food chain, so basically anything is fair game. Beef tastes good. Chicken good. Fish good.

Exactly. Just imagine what would happen to chickens if you'd set them free now. They can't fly at all, not to mention their running skills which are also not magnificent.

It always amuses me when humans say that they aren't animals. I blame religion. Anyways, other animals eat other animals, so it's hard for me to buy into the argument that it's immoral. If you've ever seen a pack of lions stalk and eat a baby elephant alive, well, that just speaks for itself really. I think it is reasonable to take steps to make animals meant for human consumption suffer less, and provide them with better living conditions.

the big difference is that animals only eat other animals out of necessity. Lions couldnt survive if they didnt eat other animals. We can survive better. As so there is no reason to do it, except that people are conditioned to by society.
