Whoa whoa, a dub doesn't have to mean vocals removed, there are plenty of dubs of instrumental tracks. A dub is just a mix with some higher frequencies removed (in the case of vocal tracks this tends to include the vocals).

Some clarification. Seems like you guys are just making up definitions for some of the stuff.

Original Mix = Original Version
Rakoon Remix = Rakoon Rework = Rakoon Remake

Only Re-edit is different than Remix and its synonyms. Re-edit means minor changes to the original. The rest are fancy ways to say Remix. In an interview Tiesto once said he chose to call his remixes Magikal Remakes because he wanted something fancier.

I also want to clarify that Mix is not the same as Remix. Remix is only when the remixer's name is there. Mix is when the remixer names his remix. For example, these are correct:

1) Rakoon Remix
2) Rakoon's Tranceaddict Mix

These are incorrect:

3) Rakoon Mix
4) Rakoon's Tranceaddict Remix
5) Rakoon Tranceaddict Mix

As you notice in the 5th example, its missing the apostrophe and letter S compared to the 2nd example. Alternatively for the 3rd example, if Rakoon is not the name of the artist but rather the name of a mix by the original artist, it is correct. This is 100% correct vinyl grammar so make sure you rename your mp3s, kids.

Might as well tackle the rest.

Edit = A shorter version of the original. Doesnt necessarily have anything to do with radio.

Dub = Like Starglider said its a stripped, simpler version of the original. So it could be no vocals, but it isnt limited to that.

Rakoon vs TA = Rakoon collaberates with TA.

Rakoon feat. TA = TA is the featured vocalist on Rakoon's track.

Rakoon & TA = Rakoon and TA together are a group.

Sometimes you'll find that vs, feat, and & are the same thing. In that case you'll just have to use instinct to decypher what is meant.

Radio Edit -- This is self explainatory. Most radio stations won't play LONG songs so producers cut their tracks down so that radio's will play them. They are just shortend versions of songs.

Dub -- I still have no clue what this means.

Someone vs. Someone -- This just means 2 people worked on the track together, for example Infected Mushroom vs. Yahel - "Electro Panic" this song was made by Infected Mushroom AND Yahel, it's just another way to say "and." Or for example Atlas - "Compass Error (Tarrentella vs Redanka Remake)" simply means that Tarrentella and Rendanka remixed the track together OR that Tarrentella Remixed the track and then Redanka took that remix and remixed again...or vise versa.

That's all I know

usually when it says mix, aka dcml mix for airwave - sunspot, it is a mix done by the original artist, remix they just take the midi from the file, use their owns samples add some shit and what not

dub is usually for a song that had vocals, they take most of them out, if not all but they also change the song a bit to fill in the parts that there was singing, otherwise if they leave it the same with no vocals, that is an instrumental

someone vs someone can also be two songs that were mashed together, sometimes they turn out really cool too

lol seems to be a lot of confusion in here.

heres wot i know to be right :

Remix = An interpretation of the by another artist using the same melody or very similar atleast

Mix = A remix but done by the same artist as the original track, e.g. Ron van den Bueken - Timeless (Ron van den Beuken Mix) (not always the case as people just put down mix instead of remix cuz they are lazy, but generally speaking this is wot it is).

Re-Edit/Rework/Remake = Not quite a remix as elements from the original track are used and then other new elements used around them.

they are the major ones that people get confused with but in the end it dont really matter that much

Thats when someone takes a tune that hasnt been released and trys to make a copy of it. There are some people on this board (Azrahel I think) who do a pretty damn good job of it too.

maybe just something to let themselves (the producers) know what remix it is that they have if they have done multiple remixes of the same song... or just to describe the remixed song or just for fun. gabriel and dresden do this with their names a lot.

also what someone mentioned about d&b dubs being vinyls that wear out quicker... its not limited to drum & bass, it is just what is called a 'dubplate' or 'acetate' and is generally a limited run, possibly promo copy or just for an artist to spin a single copy of their own track on and is basically to the vinyl world what the cdr is to cds as you can get them cut. however the downside to having that ultra rare vinyl is that they wear out heaps quicker and are expensive.

Do you do it individually, or just use a tag programm to add it one hit?

Oh, yes, I take great pleasure in removing your name and inserting something more meaningful (generally a blank space )
