They are a joke, you can see them a mile off, painted in yellow and markings on the road, and half of them are empty boxes. They don't stop speeding, they are just for getting money out of you.

I agree with them if they are there as a safety measure but a lot of them arent.

Front page of the local paper yesterday was a picture of a police car parked up with a speed camera. The car was parked in the inside lane on double yellow lines about 50 yards from a large junction on one of the busiest roads in Middlesbrough at rush hour. No car would have had any chance of speeding and all the policeman was doing was causing the traffic to merge into the outside lane increasing the risk of an accident. Now that is pisses me off

Perhaps you shouldn’t believe everything the papers say?

also, if you don't want to get any points or fines, don't sign the ticket when it comes thorught your door, but send it back to the address. You won't get any points or fine, as there is a loophole in the law. Basically, by signing it, you admit that it was you etc. However, there is no law saying you have to sign the ticket, therefore, the ticket is void as evidence.

Then they’ll just take you to the crown court instead.

Sorry Paul, but that is full of crap.

people will never stop speeding, even if there was a camera every 100 yards on every road, they will just tear them down.
I agree that in streets, towns etc that there should be a very strict speed limit, spesh near schools and places where there would be a large amount of pedestrians and that it should be strictly policed, but not with camera's.
It is a fact that camera's have caused more accidents at places than if a camera was not there.
PPL unfamiliar with the roads see them at last minute braking hard causing the car behind them to rear end them.
Hidden camera's will do the same thing.

And as for saying that more money into policing will get other crimes like theft seen to quicker is bullshit.
How much revenue have detection cameras already created and as that goes up, the detection rate for other crimes gets steadily worse.

Sorry but that's a bit like saying "people will never stop abusing kids so why bother catching peodophiles" mate.

You can't seriously tell me that if there was a speed camera in EVERY street, and that the penalty for speeding was loss of license, that people would still continue to do it....

I'm not talking about going 32 in a 30 zone here, I'm talking about people who seem to think the rules should only apply to everybody else, and that they're OK to drive at 50 coz it's 3am and they've got quicker reactions than most anyawy.

Try dealing with personal injury claims in a motor claims department for a couple of years then tell me speeding isn't a big deal. At the end of the day nobody ever has complete control of their environment, sure you might be able to safely take that corner at 50 but what if a kid runs out into the road...people don't account for these dangers because they're rarely an issue for most drivers but it only needs to happen once. Then what're you going to do? Blame the headless child for not following the greencross code?

in towns and cities i think speed limits need to be STRICTLY enforced, spesh where there are gonna be large amounts of pedestrians, schools, hospitals, town centres and i also belive the speed limit in those areas should be 20mph !

but on the open road, on the motorways, i think they are there for one purpose, to create revenue and DO create more accidents than they prevent !

in the last 2 years i have done about 60,000 miles, i see it all the time.
there is one road in scotland, between Dundee and Aberdeen, about 70 miles with about 30 speed camera's on it.
the road is almost dead str8 for 50 miles or so, and has those speed camera's hidden behind road signs.
I have followed cars on roads like this, when the driver in front suddenly spots the camera, even if they are doing like 70 mph and they are sooooo paranoid about getting points they slam on the anchors and no matter if u are the correct distance behind them, ur up thier ass in seconds and have to take avoiding action.

U seem to be so strict about speeding, i remember the 1st time i met you, with volksjoolz on the M1 @ toddington services, we were going up to Godskitchen in Brum, when we left those services u and jason left me for dust !
i was doing about 120mph in a brand new astra up the M1 and jason was still outpacing me.
U could have asked him to slow down, i did not see u two again until we was all inside Godskitchen !

we did about 100 miles doing well over 100 mph . . .

Trust me they have more money than you would think, as you know they wouldnt let onto this, coz then they can always demand more. If you dont spend all your budget it gets decresed, so they make sure they spend it.

And if your between 20-25 and in the police force the wages r very nice.

The only bad thing is being first on the scene, and rotars

Oh and one other thing, when anyone sees a fixed camera who slams on the breaks? Well i have seen plenty of near accidents when its wet etc for sudden breaking, they can be very dangerous on national speed limit roads.

And if anyone has driven from bicester to bristol, a road that used to be national sped limit is now 50 in a lot of places for one reason only, money, coz the roads r fine

Oh and spad, i dont see speeding as serious as child abuse. I think police need to concentrate on stoppin peodophiles and not puttin up mobile speed cameras and other new expensive cameras.

Yea coz that's exactly the point I was trying to make

The point is, you don't look at a crime which costs lives and say "we wont bother trying to stop it because everybody does it anyway". You keep at it until people get the message that unless they stop, they'll suffer.
