I'm going to buy myself a M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 which have been recommended by many already.

As for your choice of midikb- the oxygen8 I have to say it's an excellent kb with a very good feeling HOWEVER are you sure 2 octaves are enough? I noticed it wasn't for me (wan't to be able to play complex pads for example) so I traded it back in for an Evolution MK-249C.

I think this is achieved on a program by program basis...essentially, you have to tell each application what you want the sound to be routed through. Lets say you play the Ravensheild game, you would go into the Setup screen and select the proper card. Im sure that you set one as default for your OS in control panel or whatever, but after that...you need to individually select which card is used for each application if you want one different then the default.

You sure about that? 'cause usually you can't run for example both internal soundcard and a pci soundblaster card without conflicts in O/S. There's probably a workaround or something though.

I own an Audiophile 24/96 - I don't know anything about the other one you meantioned but I would definitly recommend the audiophile. The only problem with it is that the ASIO drivers can only go up to 24/48 - but I can get 8ms latency at that bitrate. For the price ($149 MSRP) it is definitly the way to go.

I don't understand why your asio drivers don't go further than 24/48. Mine can go up to 24/96 and work fine. Have you got the latest version?

I also think the Audiophile is better than the Terratec. I once read a review on both cards and the test came out better for the Audiophile. Do a search on google and you will find the tests I'm sure.

I'm looking into buyng this card to use instead of my hammerfall DIGI9652...

well, yeah I know it's somewhat of a downstep in quality but I can't afford a AD/DA-converter for the hammerfall so the 1010LT would suit me much better since I can't even monitor anything from the hammerfall right now and that pretty much renders it useless

is this worth doing or should I just save up and get myself an AD/DA-converter for 200-500$ instead?

as an entry level starter im looking at the audiophile 2496. I also need a set of monitor speakers, but may just settle for headphones for the time being (eek).

I was looking at getting a good midi controller, but being the fussy sod I am, I want at least 4 octaves. This kinda rules out the Access Indigo solution I was looking at

Theres not much difference in price between the 2 and 4 octave versions so you may as well go for 4 anyway. I would get an Evolution one

i keep reading that you should stay away from creative sound cards... but no one seems to be giving any reasons why. what about their higher end cards like the audigy 2 platinum ex or something in that area. im just curious as to why i should stay away from creative.

A vote for Echo Layla 24 - it absolutely rocks!
8 in / 8 out (plus 8 in/out digital if you have
something to hook it up to like a yamaha 03d)
and a midi port.

Using it with Edirol PCR-50 4 octave midi controller
and a steinberg midex 8 8x8 midi interface.

Highly recommended.
