I bet Dave laughs when he reads all the stuff about g&d. The best dj's of the world play his productions, do you think he is impressed by 10 guys on a board saying he's cheese?

It seems like a lot of people here can't seem to accept other people's opinions. Even starting to bitch at eachother and such.

hahahhaha..u said it man. So true. If they can make commercial garbage into a good track. They are doing every1 in the scene a favor. Maybe electronica can hit a younger audience and set up and nice crowd for the future. As well as sharing wat quality music is as opposed to the normal tracks commercial artists lay down.

It seems that when the remix isn't that great it's termed 'selling out'. Were above & beyond selling out when they remixed 'for a girl'? No way, it was amazing. Were 100 and 1 trance addicts selling out when they all got paid 5 grand or something crazy to remix Ayumi Hamasaki? No, mostly the results were wicked. It seems to be people only say you've sold out when the results are mediocre and the money is seemingly very large. But I'd not be suprised if the major labels were screwing people like A&B or Gabriel & Dresden with tiny remix fees for the honour of remixing people like Madonna. We'll probably never know.

I rekon jealousy pays a large part in it too. Wouldn't we all like to be remixing a huge artist for loads of money!

How long have they been making music for? how much of their lives have they POURED into their music and everything that they've had to do to get where they are, and get their productions to the quality that they are being recognized for?
When you devote yourself to something so intensely, somewhere along the road certain other areas of your life usually end up being sacrificed in order to focus on your work. [I for one sacrificed a girlfriend at one time, but ended up with the best mix cd release I ever have done.. relationships can DEFINETELY suffer from time to time when you find yourself in an 'either..or' situation]

Think about all this..now, ask yourself how long does it take for one of us to go and download virtually any one of their tracks of the TA hub? Of all the G&D tracks that are shared on the hub, how many of those people actually went out and bought the track?

How many amazing tracks are there that have been produced by people that don't make NEARLY the amount of money they deserve to for their dedication and quality end result? Record labels going under at times leaving us going "how did that happen.. some of their tracks were so good?"

Now, think about if you were one of the rare and lucky people that has devoted so much to it.. that you find yourself being asked to do a remix for one of the biggest artists in the world.. and getting paid a lot of money to do it.

For all the hard work that you've put into your music to get where you are... do you NOT deserve to finally get some generous compensation and reward for your talent and hard work?

Do you think if any of us were in that position, that we really would so riteously refuse the cheque and opportunity to take on such a project?

It sucks when people suddenly throw out comments about you being 'in it for the money' because usually it just comes down to the fact that it's nice to be rewarded for years of hard work.. with something that you can actually use to pay your rent, or redo your studio.. or maybe even use to take a vacation sometime!

Truthfully, I think in most of these cases, and definetely I think with G&D, the artists aren't 'selling out' and putting out a track that they totally compromised their sound and creativity in the name of fitting into the pop mould. They aren't really putting something out that they aren't happy with.. just to make a buck.

Do you think that a lot of the people that you see in music videos are really a lot more talented than say G&D? These instant popstar types who come out of nowhere and get showered with fame and fortune?
Do they really deserve to make way more than people who are way more dedicated and talented?

Fuck no I say.. Good job I say to Dave and Josh for all the dope tracks they have given us.. It's nice to see you guys doing so well and getting paid for all that you've put in to get here.

Respect,

G&D are not sellouts by any means. I'm very happy to see them getting more work and getting paid for it - they really deserve it. The duo is, without a doubt, one of the top producers in 2003. They've put forth more effort this year alone in producing than most of the other big name producers have put forth in the past 3 years.

I agree 100%, just because they remix tracks for big name producers doesnt mean theyre selling out. I mean I think its an honor you know, heres a person whose transcended music like Madonna. Britney a huge pop star, I mean these people are pretty big and to think they would go to youre little corner of the world to remix their songs in my opinion is flattering. On top of that none of us are G & D so none of us can truly tell their intentions. Also theyre work is not deteriating, they are still coming out with decent tunes, and lastly and most important things cost freaking money. Studios, equipment, rent, car note, gas, food, and any other expense you can think of you cant pay with youre hopes and dreams. In my opinon there is nothing wrong with taking a job for the money as long as you do you're best and try to turn out a top quality.

sometimes you got to play the bullshit before you get recognized on a larger scale. deep dish realized this. paul oakenfold is know for this too and he is big and big can be, and he's known to people just by his name. you mention paul oakenfold, people can think: dj, producer, remixer or "the guy that did the swordfish soundtrack", or "the guy that did the planet of the apes soundtrack", or "that big dj" or whatever else. music industry is big on name recognition and who knows who's good at what.

Selling out to me means is when you totally abandon your principles for money. Every musician's principle is to get his music to the masses and if successful - maybe even get paid in the process.

I have a nice and well-paying job that keeps me fed, dressed, and able to buy gear. I would be delighted to drop it all (if I were single) in a pursuit of music. But we don't live in a perfect world and I bet my bank would not share my romanticism and passion for music, if I told them "I can't make a payment coz' I quit my job to make beautiful underground music that a small minority will appreciate and even smaller minority will be willing to actually pay for. So, excuse me, Mr. Banker if I don't pay my mortgage this month, OK?"

That's all a load of rubbish - musicians are entertainers and also people who deserve to make money. Selling out or not, appreciate the music and the style or don't, but don't hate the playa, hate the game!

Good for G&D - they are tallented and devoted guys who have invested a lot of themselves and resources and passion into their music. Like it or not, I see nothing wrong with being paid for your work. If you do - quit your fucking job and try making a living while not "selling out".

remixing britney and madonna in no way makes G&D sellouts. it simply means they are two extremely talented producers turning crap tracks in quality tracks. and it's good that they're getting paid for it! with the amount of passion and work they put into their music, why the hell should they not be earning money from it??
