Hey Ya is a parody, it's absurdist music at its finest. It's supposed to sound the way it does, and the production is pretty damn good. Andre is taking a lot of shit from hip hop purists for having said that hip hop doesn't inspire him the way it used to, but if you took the time to listen to the whole album you would see how innovative and refreshing it is.

And again, why would i want to get the album if i hate the sound i hear on the radio? I cant stand the video either. I agree, the production of the song is good, but i can't stand it, its just too...ghey

I've been down with Outkast since "Player's Ball" in 1994 (look it up). They've been big in Atlanta for a loooong time. I've seen them live four times. They are like gods in Atlanta. They've been my favorite rappers since "Southernplayallistic..."

Outkast now has a very mainstream following while still making not-so-mainstream music. They deserve every award they get though. Dre (or Andre 3000 as most n00bs know him) is probably the best rapper in the world. He's incredible. And the Love Below is brilliant.

I highly recommend you all check out ALL of their albums and singles. Go get ATLiens and play it all the way through.

They usually put the tracks from the album that have the biggest commercial appeal on the radio. They are not a reflection of the true production quality and diversity of the album. Both discs by Big Boi and Dre for their new album are very different and both very well produced.

I can almost guarantee that half of the people who will read and contribute to this thread will have not heard of any tracks off of any cd released before Stankonia. I think a song like "Guilty Conscience" is better. The beats and melody is important. "hey ya" is friggen annoying especially the "alright alright alright..." part. blah blah.

I can see why Outkast would be popular with the electronic music crowd - Bombs Over Baghdad has an almost D&B like beat to it, and Ghetto Music is almost like an oldskool electro song (with the sirens in it and everything)... they're one of the most innovative hip-hop groups IMO, their older albums reflect more of a laid back hip-hop style while their latest 2 are much more prone to experimentation. Awesome group though.
