If youre looking for a way to get people's feet wet, Radio 1, the nation radio station in england (right?) has web broad casts of their essential mixes on the weekends...alot of the big name djs do this and you get to hear alot of new music.
Its not a bad way to get people started.

Well, you have to remember that is part of the clubbing culture. Personally, I go out to listen to the Djs I like, dance and have a good time. The object is to have a club that can cater to both without too many problems. We came across something similiar to that in LA at Giant.....However, the scene out there was a bit odd since alot of things centered on the after paties.
The other problem is, people not deeply into the new music have no idea what trance really is, they think its the crap they hear on the radio on cheesy music stations. (Cough KTU Cough)
Course, its easy for me since Im near NYC. ALthough they closed Twilo, something else will crop up soon enough to caer to my music needs. I do feel bad for many of you out there without an outlet to dance |
Myrlin,
For the most part, there isn't anything that approaches Twilo, (or even Limelight or SF) outside of there. I've haven't clubbed across the country, but for the places i've been to, that's my experience.
The main reason i've put this up is knowledge. Meta, you're probably new to the scene and aren't aware of the nature of clubs and the history. I have no problem with women dressing nice for a club, even if that's not going out is all about. Its no big deal, and we all know women like to look nice once in a while.
I just don't think a lame Irish Pub is the place for that...
What I don't like is this situation, like you said, where people don't know anything about music and think that Trance is WKTU-type music. The best of the best here aren't half as knowledgable as the Twilo crowd (I'm not kissing anyone's ass - after seeing the crowds for Lawler at both places, I knew), so you get all these clubs popping up with:
- Glam crowds
- Toca's Miracle as the token music
- People thinking this is how it is!
Meanwhile less and less real DJs hit my city, and all that's left is these bizarre pseudo-clubs with DJs who don't even know who Digweed or Tiesto is. But, people pack it in because they can't read magazines or just don't know better. It's like clubbing mastribation. Ain't the real thing...
Maybe I give people too much credit. I don't know...

Ive spent most of my time at "raves" and just recently started going to club so I couldnt say what kind of progression they have had towards trance music. I was just saying from what ive seen from the clubs Ive been to, for the most part the people there arent really into trance music and the culture behind it. The are into going out to where the newest craze is happening, looking their best and hooking up for the night.

Well, there is a time and place for everything and everyone. Music and clubs are all a matter of taste and preference. Ugh dont mention SF...hehe.
Spoke to a few people in Boston at Avalon and alot of them didnt know the big names either but a few did. Guy ornadel walked in and we were the only people to recognize him. I think the large festivals that are going around the country are doing a good job of showcasing talent. Problem is, the large percentage of the mob will always remmeber seeing Oakenjoke on MTV, or hearing this or that on the radio.
For me, its all about the vibe. Sure, some of us are music snobs but everyone has a bit of that in them regardless what they feel strongly about. Just gotta keep the party kids together and partying .

Well, about trance and the rest of the music that follows getting big, is indeed showing its signs on the top 40 clubs here in Florida, I mean, my local radio station does the morning mix, lunch mix, and evening mix ..here, you hear tunes from Schillerm we come one , and other tunes that were underground not that long ago, after that , on wenesdays, fridays and saturdays, they go live on clubs that they are sponsoring, there's even the TOP 40 POP station that on saturdays, they play all this good trance after lets say 11 PM, before it was only the top 40 music, now they've gone all trance ..
ANother radio station , wich is the Hits of today and some 80's songs, on saturdays, they have this show called " TTHE HOUSE PARTY " here they play the commerial trance stuff .. but hey!! this station is 80's oldies, and alternative music hits !! I mean whats up !!!
The other day I was switching radio stations, when I hear madonna - what it feels like for a girl ( above and beyond mi ) .. good .. I leave it, when it finished, it was a friking spanish SALSA music radio station !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOW THATS SICK !
Also, raves have gotten bigger, like ULTRA fest, from 15,000 peeps, to 25,000 peeps...
So, atleast here in Miami Dance music is showing its signs, and club promoters say that Dance will become as popular as Hip Hop and Pop ..
