Mark Oliver rocks the casbah, no matter when and where. (Don't change, Mark!) IMHO, Toronto should appreciate the great talent we're hogging here...

You read it wrong, I added "it" above to make it clearer - I didn't denounce anyone's taste in music, I just stated a correlation. For example, a certain radio show in Toronto had advertising that mentions Techno, House, Jungle(i think), DnB - except Trance - but yet they plug big name trance DJs and air their interviews/sets. Conformity is with respect to (as Mark also pointed out) being seen as 'new' to the scene if you have a liking for Trance.. In the same way, this show might not look as 'underground' if it mentioned that they also play Trance - as an aside, it doesn't help that popular stations (like 103.5) play the cheesiest of Euro tracks and sometimes label them as new trance tracks.

This site is unique in that even though it is called Tranceaddict it still has EDM fans of all genres and while there is the occasional genre-war it does not happen often. For a comparison just search for Trance on tribe and read some of the replies.

Mark, I had an excellent night. I loved your set, I was just craving more trance...becuase you play it so well.

In fact, me and Hardcore Trancer were discussing how well you adapt to all atmospheres when opening for a DJ. I rememeber your opening set before Tiesto in June and I couldnt beleive how smooth and flowing your set was. We truly are lucky to have a DJ that knows his records.

You were the DJ that got me into trance when i heard you play Airwave @ Meow...

And you did end up playing Communication!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I totally agree. I have seen with my own eyes a pattern that has never died...and that is whenever trance is played at a party or an event, more hands are in the air, more screaming and horns are blown, and the crowd just seems to be more energized and pumped up, in fact, there is more movement and dancind on the floor.....wheras when ive attended Prog/ house parties, or when a prog or house DJ plays the same crowd another time, the energy level is just Blah compared to when trance is played.

People deep down know that Trance is an amazing genre.. some just fail to remember that after the party is done.

For the house heads.. i know its hard to admit that trance is better.....sorry but thats reality.

whatever helps you sleep at night buddy

i've been to just as many "house music" parties that have had equal energy to trance parties.

While I don't like bashing Tribe I have to agree with this.
I always get the sense (from Tribe) that Trance (specifically Trance) gets a bad rap because it's considered 'old and busted' and stared down at through their noses.
Or maybe because they're a little too clique-y with them having simular tastes in EDM?

Maybe it's just me?

Thanks baby Jebus for the Swampman....

[EDIT]:
Oh yea.....Merry Christmas Mark O. and I've always enjoyed whomever you've opened for.

those poor unfortunate misguided souls ..

have u always noticed that the trance section of Tribe is the smallest one with most of their users posting as TA's as well? Not only that but many of the oldschool trance ravers who do post there don't seem to post on TA??

I've noticed people who complain about 'other' genres tend to also complain about the crowd around them. But honestly if you're that picky about either you should consider your own little club that way you can always have it your way and always be happy.

Mark: too many to mention but another unforgettable night was last time GuyOrnadel was here. You brought the afterparty to the guv-soo dark...then the 'sudden' transition into trance. What a night!
Also I've heard many many djs this year alone for countless hours but I think you're the only one who 'represents' Toronto-a city as diverse as it can be. My friends and I refer to you as Mr. Variety. Hope thats ok with you...
and oh yeah thanks for the unforgettable memories

"House/Progressive/Techno", as you put it, is an acquired taste in my opinion. I don't see how your statement, "While everyone can preach about it being all about House/Progressive/Techno we all know that deep down when Trance is played people enjoy it - it's just that they're too scared to admit to it because it's somehow linked to being 'new to the scene'.", is correct at all. If person's taste in music changes, it does so not because of conformity based on the direction the scene is going in, but in evolution of their own taste.

You can't honestly tell me that I'd start listening to country if thats what our scene turned into, or, that I'd lose interest in "House/Progressive/Techno" if it became mainstream. Can you? Thought so. Therefore, I have to bring up my point about your denouncing of people's taste in music, yet again..
