i'm really grumpy mornings, especially mornings after holidays and on mornings i have work. disregard the tone.

I had this crazy idea, for lack of a better word, poll the tranceaddict web site to see what kind of promotion we would have to do to get our night running. Hell, I never thought trance addicts would be so adverse to more trance/techno club nights.

And so far the only valid input I received was from BusyChild.

If I can't get clubbers from No Va to drive the 50+ miles to B-more to see 2-3 superstar Dj a night then we are doomed, and will have to focus our attention elsewhere.

And just a little side note for you, we have already been approved for a late licence in B-more!
alllll right asshat... stay in England...

ok, listen, asshat
hehe
we were just offering some constructive criticism, and if you can't take that, I doubt you will last very long in this business.

Another thing, I seem to remember a guy who started up a club in DC this past summer, we'll call him Apu. Well, Apu was from England, and he knew the scene pretty well over there, he was even friends with a lot of the big UK trance DJs. So Apu tried to apply his UK knowledge to a short-lived club here in DC called Code, do you rememeber that? I don't know what kind of big shot you think you are, but where did it get Apu? Absolutley fucking nowhere...

I like how you asked us about our opinion about opening a club in B-more and you cant take it. Remember one thing, we, the trance addicts, are what make EDM stay alive... we arent brokers or bankers or marketers or financial advisors... what we know, all those "professional" people dont. They go by numbers and theory, we go by fact and actually living the life.

From my knowledge of B-more, its more of a hip-hop/urban area, so what your doing is bringing this market to an area that doesnt accept or like it. Im sorry, but this is a crash and burn situation.

I recommend gettin a NYC club... nyc's clubs are shitty... we have arc... avalon? they're alrite... but its not a monopoly like glow has; we have a couple small clubs down here in NYC and a HUGE trance community... i'm telling you; you'd work it out here... tell me what you think?

unless you already made complete plans for baltimore...

Its been tried Surge... it doesn't work because you are dead wrong on your main point... That there is a huge trance community in NYC... that couldn't be farther from the truth... yes a lot of people like PvD... guess what... past that... there aint much love for the genre... Progressive House, Tribal, Deep House, and Techno... those make parties money... not trance...

OK, look I’ll wave the white flag and call a truce.

To set the record straight, I’m not a banker or lawyer or whatever else you named. I’m a Dj and promoter and I’ve been doing this for 12 years now, so I know the scene.

I’m not trying to come off all high and mighty, although some of you think I am. If you want to know what kind of person I am simply go to the UKTA board and ask Ste or Jeff.

I got upset cause I didn’t want your opinion, that’s not what I was asking for. If I pose the question a different way I may be able to get the info I need.

Let’s say hypothetically speaking, once a month you could go to the best party around, a party that had a show that could rival Ibiza, just a straight up spectacle. And each month you had 2 or 3 A-list Djs controlling the vibe of the party. How far would you be willing to drive for it?

You see we have run the numbers, like one of you suggested but the unknown factor is this. Out of all the people who pack out Crasher, Godskitchen, and Passion, week in and week out very few of those people actually live in those clubs respective cities. The clubbers in the UK love to travel to the best events, sometimes up to 2hrs. This is what I don’t know about American club land. Are you willing to travel?

I'm not trying to start drama here, we just need to know if it would be worth our time and effort to follow thru what we have already started. If clubbers won't travel then were screwed! Bottom line

2 hours doesn't seem like a long drive... from ny it'd be what, 3, 3 and a half hours? i'm not sure. i haven't done the travelling thing to see my favorite dj yet so i'm probably the wrong person to respond to this question

a couple ideas.... questions..... suggestions....

...i'm stupid so feel free to ignore me!!

...Tunnel's RE:MIX in DC didn't survive because of 1. its competition with GLOW and it's in DC and 1/2 the people in GLOW are traveling down from MD/PA/NYC etc. 2. Glow couldn't move to tunnel because in their survey people were already complaining about the location and the drive.. and its in DC !! this says ALOT about people's willing to travel to BMore

...I would be definitely willing to consider traveling to BMore for a night with more than one big name DJ, but i could have sworn you run into some law issues with the after 2am thing.. so suggestion.. i saw this done in another state with a 2am thing... at 2am they ask the dj's to pause for a moment... and they turn up the lights... and bars had to shut down and the bouncers walk around and make sure all liquor containers were thrown away... empty or full... then they turn the lights back on and continued the night with no legal issues... perhaps this is an option for you

...next thing to SERIOUSLY consider... i know that most of us here.. are looking for a really great place to after party.... the DC area has a HUGE demand for an after party better than Ben N Mo's.. people would be willing to go and pay to get in if you could put together a really nice after party.. and maybe one a month open early (whatever night your choose...Plan it when glow or CuBIK doesn't have anything big like PVD going on obviously) and do 2 really big named DJ's starting early in the night... and that would keep you going till morning and your resident DJ's can close and open the night

...one last suggestion... CuBIK's main feature that keeps the $$ coming in, is the fact that it is a multiroom venue! Where ever you decide... especially on Sat night... i know a lot of dnb fans and break fans have trouble looking for something to do on Sat night.. but their numbers are small when it came to keeping Tunnel alive Destination needed DCSkillz just to get people there at all!... but it would worth have at least 2 rooms spinning two different genre's. And if you really want to try to thrive ... to have 2 completely different genre's of Big named DJ's might draw an even larger crowd!

...question...would this be a definite weekly thing? or monthly? and Seattle's best night was on Sunday... cuz all the bar folks were out and Big Name DJ's came and chilled dawing a decent crowd... I would love a really good Sunday night but know that is asking a lot for some people...but its an idea to throw out there... as well as the possibility of doing a Big name DJ on a Sunday with a holiday following it!... like memorial day.. presidents day.. spring break...martin luther king ... etc!

Whats in it for you to pull off 1 "big" show a month? It wouldnt be worth it for you... And dont say that during the duration of the month, once a week there will be shows with residents because there wont be any kind of decent turn out to make the money you have invested into it.

opps sorry i read this and started to respond before this page with new posts were given.. i didn't mean to add my opinion to where it isn't asked...

...um now that i've caught up on some posts here as i was typing and goofing off...

...personally i would consider driving for an awesome night.. but truthfully.. for the money and the travel involved and my broke assests! I wouldn't be willing to do it every month... maybe once a month.. for me baltimore isn't too far... but honestly there have been some awesome nights i havent been willing to travel to NYC for... and i'm not quick to travel to be incased like a sardine either... i love to dance and like having room and i'm scared of being in really crowded places where i'm not able to move my hands even to scratch my nose.. LIKE PVD!@Glow... so if there is something decent going on at FIVE like DJ Icey and PVD at Bmore.. i'd go to FIVE... even though i like PVD better.... bmore has no metro system to DCarea... so even if you party till morning... your stuck in bmore... you can't metro home if you got trashed ...i personally always have a getting home backup plan...

Vlad, no one around here can afford to put on weekly shows with more than 1 Dj, which is why were opting for a monthly venue. Plus clubbers won't get tired of it as quick, it leaves you waiting for the next party, something to look forward.

This may sound silly and off the wall but we are not going to rely on the Dj to make the night, the night will be great with or without them. They are going to be the icig on the cake!

Intelligent77. Thanks for your input. One of the things we are considering doing is offering a party bus service. If we could enough people to book a ticket for that, for an additionl fee of course, it would take the hassle out of getting to the event.
