i really think that the future is programs like final scratch you keep the feel of vinyl but yet get the convenience of less lugging around of it. Eventually vinyl will be replaced by another format but nowhere near 5 years, that is just around the corner!!!

It only makes sense if it is. Vinyl is too damn cumbersome to lug around. 100 vinyl weighs a good 50-60 pounds (a guesstimate), and while it is true you can play many hours with those 100 vinyl you have many more options if you have, say 1000 songs at your disposal instead.

Personally, I like working with vinyl more than I do with cd. CD mixing feels kinda cheap to me...it's definitely not the same feeling.

I think that the appearance of djing with vinyl vs. cd's or even final scratch is what's going to keep vinyl alive. You can get the crowd much more into it when you don't look so techy with all of the gadgets, but when your mixing with all analog hardware.

I'd say most of the time, the majority of the people don't even know what the dj truly is doing other than mixing 2 songs together. Most people don't even know when there's a trainwreck...only the djs can pick that up.

I recently saw Gabriel and Dresden and Dave Dresden used all cds for his set and he rocked the club. Then Josh Gabriel used only his laptop with no Final Scratch and rocked the crowd too...If the music is good and track selection outstanding, who cares if the dj has gadgets? Maybe Josh Gabriel didn't truly mix in the conventional sense, but he played some bangin tunes and most importantly it sounded good.

I think spinning w/ vinyl is more of an artform. Like painters, they don't just switch to an apple w/ a copy of photoshop or illustrator, cause its the new way to go. Eventually it might shift in that new direction, but there will be always those who stick with the old. Like someone previously posted, its not the same feeling. It all comes down to the dj.

i'm all for cds replacing vinyl which i do think will ahppen but not just yet. what i don't like is final scratch being used for the entire set. like common, pvd for example puts no effort into his sets no more with his entire set played from his laptop. whos to say he hasnt already pre-recorded it and plays it to a club via Winamp!?

cds all and good, but final scratch is the thing ruining the industry IMO.

But nothing is released on CDs apart from the cheesey stuff, so there will be no music if no vinyls.
