I think that a lot of tracks are ruined by cheesy out of place vocals. But others are made even better by vocals. Its hard to use vocals in a track, but if you use them right, they can really inhance a song, imo.

I can think of a few tunes that infuriated me in years past because they'd take three lines (THREE LINES) from a 25 year-old song and have it sung over and over and over...

I want to see the sunshine after the rain
I want to see bluebirds flying over the mountains again
oh where is the silver lining shining at the rainbow's end
(repeated ad nauseum, circa 1997)

THAT sort of thing infuriates me. So does the 'I'm freeeee, in ecstacyyyy, fly with meeeee" stuff. Almost as derivitive as an R&B singer telling you that she is "the deal, and knows it's for real".

Most of the time I enjoy them. The most amazing trance song with vocals has to be Marco V- I feel you. The lyrics are very creative and have a distinct meaning to the individuals perception. Trance is always hot but I dont think it would be as powerful and versatile if all the songs were strictly instrumental.Marco V - I feel you

theres some songs that just wouldn't be the same without the vocals - in these instances i'd say they certainly don't ruin the track - sure theres many examples of vocals clearly ruining tracks - wheather they be clumbsy/throwaway lyrics or badly sung/produced vocals - but for me when i hear a killer track it's normally the vocal i'll remember.

If the vocals are quality (like in Beautiful Things) then it´s right though..

But all the commercial vocal trance tracks are not hard to produce!!


Most music genres have vocals in it (like Beatles (Rock´n´Roll), Hip-Hop, Rap, Pop) so it´s maybe harder to accept music without vocals for people ??! (just a thought)

it totally depends on the track.

Conjure One feat. Sinead O'Connor - Tears from the Moon [Tiesto ISOS Remix] would never be the same without the vocals, for exemple.

Another track - Airwaive - Breathing 2003. The full vocal mix sucks, but it's still those groovy "breeeeeaathiiin'" vocals that complete the track...so...

sometimes you need them, sometimes you're better off without...depends on the track.

I also agree that it depends on the track. Generally lyrics for trance songs are not very well written. Usually it sounds like the track was produced and the vocals added as an afterthought.

I'd say that for every great vocal track, there's at least 20-30 crappy ones released. The worst is when you hear a song that would be great if instrumental, but is ruined by cheese lyrics. Ugh.

i like vocals when they are used as another musical element. it's even better if you can't understand them but it really depends - it's a fine line.

put cheesy vocals with a cheesy trance song and you have instant crap...like in lost tribe - gamemaster. EW.

It's pretty much all a matter of tastes and depends on the track. Some are made by the vocals, and some are absolutely destroyed by them. I don't mind vocal tracks if they are well done and not overbearing, but prefer instrumentals / dubs.
