a) what are the odds of pulling off an overnight party (without being busted) complete with loud music, tiki torches/bonfires and such, alcohol, and, say 50-125 people, and

b) what are the odds of doing it for, say, 2-3 days, in a nonstop party?

ok first off:
http://lanier.sam.usace.army.mil/recreation.htm
With over 690 miles of shoreline and over 100 small islands Lake Lanier is the perfect place to pursue your recreational adventure. Whether it is fishing, camping, boating, picnicking, swimming or a variety of other recreation activities, Lake Lanier has it all.

secondly....we dont know if the islands are considered to be a part of the camping situation (http://lanier.sam.usace.army.mil/camping.htm) but it says:

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES are prohibited in all parks.
NOISE: Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Unreasonable or excessive noise at any time is prohibited.

regardless, though, my friend says they've made a lot of noise and whatnot and did not get in trouble....
look at this, though: http://www.access.gpo.gov/nara/cfr/...6cfr327_01.html

In reference to your questions:
she said:

A) she said that that was exactly what the 4th of july was and no one complained. If you go to the middle where the dam is and not near any houses where the shoreline is, then no one would complain. But you'd have to find place that is nestled and far away from any sort of housing complex. I guess the key here is .......only we would be around that area. Desolated and just us...she says you'd have to search the islands, and find which creeks are better to work with.

B) That goes along with the first one, as long as no one knows about it. BUt having so many people at a non-stop party might be risKAY lol. Regardless look up the rules and regulations.

As far as the boat goes...her dad sold her boat

i hope this helped out man.

anything else, ill be glad to ask.

Yeah, it's probably just best to come around mid afternoon and party till the next morning. Doing some 3 day excursion is probably a pipedream. As for camping, it's prohibitied on all the islands anyways, though sleeping on boats beached on the islands is fine.

I don't think the islands count as parks. Here's what I read off that other link I posted:

quote:
Lake Lanier has more than 100 islands that provide scenic value, provide wildlife habitat,
serve as buffers between development, and afford numerous day-use recreational
activities. Day-use activities consist of fishing, sunbathing, hiking, swimming, bird
watching, wading, picnicking, etc. All fires and camping, including the placement of any
type tent, are not permitted on islands.

The practice of island camping has been prohibited due to resulting site degradation; lack
of sanitation facilities and potable water; and the lack of adequate patrol and law
enforcement. Unrestricted use has led to unauthorized construction, rowdiness, the loss
of vegetation and wildlife food sources, and has encouraged erosion. The islands are the
last havens for wildlife species to escape the pressures of development and high-density
recreational use. Uncontrolled use threatens the ability of the islands to provide this safe
retreat for wildlife. Public use is also credited with starting fires that have completely
burned several islands.

That was written/posted October 2002, so a lot could have changed/been laxed since then.

Alright. I live further up the lake, around Holiday Marina and further, so it would probably be an island close to Holiday, or perhaps Sunrise (Sunrise is further up the lake and I'm not as familiar with the area, but it's probably more desolate, and its also 2 minutes from my house which helps).

I'm thinking that maybe we SHOULD do it July 4th weekend, because:

a) There will be other parties going on, meaning ours is going to stand out less

b) DNR will probably be spending a lot more time out on the water patrolling for drunk boaters more than anything else

c) July 4th gives is a good excuse for the party. In the event DNR does come pay us a visit, we'd be a lot more likely, imo, to get away with our "independence day celebration" than our "dangerous illegial rave."

d) The fireworks show is a plus if we happen to be in sight of it

Anyways, run that by her, tho I'd really like to talk to her if it isn't a big hassle. Right now the only thing keeping this from going into official planning phase is busts. Once I'm reasonably sure that we could get away with it, I'd start looking into boats and transportation. Once that is down, it would be gravy.

So guys... if you know friends who come up on the lake a lot, ask them about busts, and ask them about boats.

Phil you got a boat too? Rock on! We should do a FLTA lake outing sometime.

I offered to bring my boat up when the thread started and the offer still stands. Curious as to how you're gonna power all the gear on an island though? You're going to need a very large gas powered generator and a lot of gas. Also, while 2 or 3 day is bad ass, it's probably overkill, the idea is tight everyone would come even for 1 day & night. But please please please don't make it the 4th of July! Then I gotta decide between this or PVD @ 4th of July bash in Miami.

Hmm, heres another possibility: About an hour south of ATL is Lake Sinclair. A friend of mine who lives near it is telling me that there is a large island in the middle of it, where he's been to 4 seperate, wild parties, with about 60+ people each time, loud ass music, and zero busts. An alternative to consider, perhaps? I'm not familiar with the lake, but he says he knows many people over there with boats.

Alright, I'll keep your boat offer in mind. And yeah, we'd have to power it with generators. I've got one thats pretty strong, but more can be rented/borrowed.
