now I'm not defending any genre here but when I saw digweed in 2002 (nov. 2002 it was)....he tore the place apart and it was not prog really....breaks, techno, tech-house but to each his own. So cyrus..lemme know when tiesto gets his act back together and i may consider seeing him next time he comes to toronto.
Werent you there for his performance in June @ the DOcks...
God was that a night of fun...thank you Gold club and Tiesto for that wonderful event.
I still listen to that set once in a while... you can hear everyone chanting and clapping.

I have this feeling that everything you find "boring" you label it as prog...without ever exploring the actual 'progressive' house and trance genre.
Thats the impression I'm getting.

Like ive said before... ive explored it well enough....by seeing prog dj's, downloading the "best prog" sets... and cd's like Nubreed, and GU or whatever those are called...
It is BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINGGGGGGG
Ive given it way too many chances...i just dont feel the same uplifting energetic emotion i get when i listen to a trance set...
Trance is complex, passionate, it has depth and beauty....
Prog is the basic form of that... taking a beat and some rifts... and thats it...
Techno is the same thing, tomeits a bunch of noise but at least its harder.

there is a diff tho cuz I saw satoshi tomiie and it was one of the most boring 3 hrs of my life but people next to me thought it was the greatest 3 hrs of their lives (tho lawler tore it up afterwards tho) but I guess it's to each his own. I mean that tiesto set in dec 2002, I wrote on ivibes (changed my words the bastards)..that it was horrid..gave it 1 out of 10 but people posted that it was the greatest set ever...so...to each his or her own.

Nubreed 4 cd 2 was more trancy prog in some parts tho...then again nubreed 5 was breaks and house.....so.....i don't think you can label anything as just one genre....cuz every damn cd these days is a mix of stuff.

lol...sure it is.
"Prog" has melody. Except its more subtle; thus there's more emphasis on everything else in the song to work together. Trance without a melody is nothing.
"Prog" without a melody can still be a really good rhythmic beat that can be used for a good lead-in track for something else.
Charlie May is one example of a "prog" producer thats is FAR from being basic.

But producers are making stuff that stradles the fucking fence and you wonder what genre it is.

Take 'er easy dude, it was just a joke. I'm not in the habit of bashing DJs, but it's entertaining to see how people freak out when someone disses the Tijsmeister.

you are not missing much, what trainwrecking, bad track selection. Tijs has seen better days imo tho I do admit that his 2001 koolhaus set was one of the greatest of all time, for those who were there.
I was there, and it WAS a great set. Mind you, I was totally off my rocker and tranced in my pants 10 times over when he played Silence and "hide u vs flight 643." Ahhhh, so long ago...so much loooooove for the trance back then.
I also met my boyfriend that night, in line outside.
