Im getting pumped for this party.....anyone hear Hernans new album?!?! |
I couldn't resist the temptation to listen to it, even though I promised myself I wouldn't hear any of his new stuff before saturday. Personally I regard his South America mix as the holy grail of prog, so I was really eager to see how his Renessaince mix compared to it.
And, well, it couldn't really, but maybe cuz the two shouldn't be compared in the first place. Renessaince is a different style, done in the same approach as all other Rennesaince mixes I've listened to, while SA was his own rendition (which I still think was better). Overall it's a brilliant, intriguing and unique mix, but does take some getting used to. Disc 1 reminds me a bit of Sander's mixes, starting off really weird and establishing that proggy groove, but then turning to an impressive funkier house near the end (with the most amazing sax piece and hypnotizing vocals!). Disc 2 starts off right where 1st left off and takes it to another level he's known for, finishing off with a classic that puts the whole thing in perspective. Amazing!
The 2 discs should both definitely be listened at the same time as they are very close knit. Can't wait to see what he's got in store for us this saturday!
