a lot of boards that say they support 133 fsb really don't, most notably boards with certain via chipsets.

most modern boards do, otherwise Athlon XP and P4s are only used to a fraction of their potential

The mobo in this situation is indeed a modern board.

Manufactured by ASROCK? Call me a skeptic, I most recently purchased an ASUS board that has this exact same problem. Tried everything I could think of (adjusting voltage etc)... Just won't post at 133. I know it's a 133 chip too... KillDaDJ, make sure your ram is 133 fsb ddr, therein your problem may lie

Saying a fraction is entirely misleading.. maybe a 10% "real" performance hit Theoretically a 25% hit to performance, but realized is much less than that.

3/4 is closer to 1 than it is to 0

sorry, I actually wrote that wrong, meant to say would lack a fraction of performance.

u may have a point...im on SDRAM atm as im too cheap to buy DDR, since i just yanked out my old ram and chucked it in this new board, the board supports both DDR/SDRAM but not simutaniusly (sp?)

Okay, so as I understand it:

The fSB can be set on the motherboard using jumpers.

1 [2 3]
Gives you FSB 100MHZ

[1 2] 3
Gives you FSB 133MHZ

Obviously, you want the latter option.

Try this:

Set the jumper to 100MHZ

Open the BIOS, under the ADVANCED tab, set the CPU Host Frequency to AUTO

Save, Shutdown

Now, pop the jumper to 133MHZ.

Startup, see what happens.

i got into windows with an overclock of 120mhz, that made my pc run at 1.5ghz, which is below what it should be at. my C: started to go corrupt. i had to reinstall XP, so i did that. now im back to square one, at 1250mhz. i fucking hate this, my processor is capable of 1.6ghz but the system is happy with 1.3ghz...POS

well, i guess im stuck at 1.3ghz.

well... if the bus speed was set at AUTO, why did u need to reset the CMOS...?

I would suggest contacting ASROCK, cuz this is starting to sound semi-fucked up...

(on board bus speed jumper, wtf)

I can almost guarentee you that it is your problem. That is, unless that board just really sucks. DDR 266 (pc2100 IIRC) ram is cheap ~ pricewatch.com Actually your better off getting DDR 333 cos its cheaper

56 US (INC SHIPPING) for 512 mb's of ram

either use a jumper to reset bios like mine which is a really new MB or take out the little battery thing on your motherboard and wait a minute then put it back in, which resets the bios

Almost all motherboards for like.. ever have had a jumper/pair of connectors that you short together to reset... Sometimes it's a pain in the ass though and easier to just take out the battery.
