im sorry but a ferrari 360 cannot be beaten by a "BPU" impreza STI. *Maybe* in a straight line, but the not-so-pedantic-difference is that after 1 lap around a track the impreza's brakes are fading out and the motor is starting to overheat, not to mention it's immeasurably inferior handling properties. Would be a pretty funny race really

A 10 second supra runs on plane/race fuel to get those numbers and costs about 10 times as much as a Neon. And that's excluding all the performance upgrades. Needless to say, there is no supra out there that runs 10s on 92 octane pump fuel and it would be stupid to put so much wear (high boost lvls) on your motor driving it to and from work. And generally speaking, 4 cylinder non-turbos are slow There are some that pull respectable straight line times but they have a really built NA motor. Needless to say headers and intake don't really qualify under the "heavily built" categorization. I think it's funny that you think your car is fast when its a 15+ second car. I guess it's consolation prize that your "friends" actually do own fast cars. They probably call you an idiot too...

I paid a grand total of 130 US for my car, it really doesn't surprise me that it is slow, nor do I care. It just strikes me as rather... funny.. that you think a neon is fast

I live right by a nice straight street and i often see racers go at it, of course, with a coke and popcorn through the blinds. It's pretty common to see civics and all the "family cars" beating corvettes and yes, even mustang GTs. I'm a big fan of the mustang GT btw, i love that growling sound as they pass by. but ya, it's pretty moronic to say any car is BLEH based on the outside. Stock mustang gts, like 98 and older body style run low 15s. 99 and newer run mid 14s. I've beeten both in my 98 R/T. Also add to the list, last body style RX7 TT, WRX STI, 00 Mustang Cobra, and a bunch of older cars that looked like they'd be fast in the water box.

Any car can be fast if you modify it. Neons are factory high 15 second cars. A couple bolt on mods can get them into high 14s. Turbos can get them into the 12s easily. And heavily modified turbo cars can run 10s and be street legal. Len Ayala runs almost 30 lbs of boost (last I heard was 28).

Facts are facts, you opinions based on little knowledge of cars just makes other people who know whats up angry.

Heh. With the exception of the new (03-04) SVT Cobra, Mustang's are easy prey. I lined up at the local strip against an older 'stang I thought was going to smoke me; he had the ground shaking and was running some decent slicks, but guess who got the win light. And he didn't even break down. Heh.

This Wed I'll see just how close to the 12's I can get with my "stockish" SRT-4. I say stockish, because the performance mod's I've done cost less than my last oil change (5 quarts of Mobile 1 and a Mopar Oil Filter).

I've lined up against many stockish and slightly modified V8 "muscle-cars" most of them run somewhere in the low to mid 14's. A few dip down into the 13's and even fewer run in the 12's. Most of the cars that run 12.5 or faster are trailer queens... so much for "streetable." And as for a daily driven car running in the 10's, it is more feasable to do that with a turbo 4 cyl than a carb equipped V8. Why? Because with the turbo equipped car you can dump a few gallons of race gas in at the track and then turn up the boost. 10-15psi around town and 25-30psi at the track.

And it doesn't cost as much as you might think. I would venture to say that it would cost about the same to put a Neon in the 10's as it would most 60-70's V8.

Man that bad boy is sporting 150 hp and 135 ft lbs of torque WOW!!! Sure neons can be fast, are 99.999999999999999999999% of them not besides the SRT-4s? Yes. Is the one pictured in this thread fast? Nope.

If you think any V8 owners find that car even remotely impressive or they have told you they found it impressive then there just being nice to your face. Your car spraying is only putting down in the 190 whp area and that is quite pathetic, well it may allow you to beat umm... some of the 4 cylinder NA competition it really dosent put the car in a higher bracket in terms of speed lol.

Second the 2001 Neon R/T traps at a blistering 87 mph bringing it to the end of the quarter mile in 16.10 seconds. Im sure after all those extensive modifications your well into the low 15's on juice if thats something to be proud of.

Anyways in my opinion and in anyone elses who dosent drive a 4 cylinder. That car is rice, if you don't think so good for you, perhaps when you delve into the performance side of automotive engineering youll see the light.

Btw Mchat you may want to read other forums such as svtperformance.com lol. Pretty much everyone who posts there has a 12 second or less car and they are by no means trailer queens. Your nuts thinking its cheaper to get a neon into the 10's then say a 85 Mustang, hell ive got videos of 85 mustangs trapping 180 mph with under 50 k in them, and just in case you didnt know 180 mph trap is low 7's.

This is all I could come up with for the neons http://www.allpar.com/neon/scca.html, I didnt take the time to read it I will after this post, but I highly doubt there going to break into the 7's for under 50 k. If they have even gotten into the 9's yet.

Wow, a modified car beating a stock one, who would have thought of that? I'm happy you've beaten a bunch of stock cars which with basic performance upgrades can rip your grocery getter in two I wasn't arguing that a car that runs 10's cannot be street legal, I was simply saying that a car that runs 10's cannot run 10's on the street and be legal at the same time, in fact it's likely that unless your bringing out the slicks and find a nice high traction surface (read: not possible) you won't be able to do it at all.

Neon R/T's are listed as 16.10 s @ 87 mph with 150 hp stock where I looked That's a really far cry from fast and distant enough from a "98 and below" low 15 quarter time in a mustang gt. What exactly are you going to "bolt" onto a neon to shave off a second on your quarter time? A cold air intake?

Unless you are highly modified it's impossible you are taking "stock" WRX STIs and last gen rx-7's in your neon.

I don't see what's so impressive about killing 30 year old cars that are "slighty modified" in your brand new semi-performance vehicle. How do they build v-8's now?

Granted, your turboed neon is a bit faster than these but :
a.) Mustang GT motors aren't exactly the pinnacle of v-8 power. (although it could be equally conjectured that a neon isn't exactly the pinnacle of inline 4 powerplants)
b.) It is naturally aspirated.
c.) Attach a supercharger and you can pretty much blow the doors off any neon with it.

I never knew it was a hard concept to grasp that bigger is usually better Cars with double your displacement tend to be a bit faster you know, especially when they are carrying a minimal amount of extra curb weight
