the difference now is that songs are driven by melodies and not beats...bak in the day you had some killer beats...now its same beat with a different melody on top.

and some dj's don't know how to organize a set...i mean if the tracks don't flow nicely together than you shouldn't be mixing them together...

I hear people telling that most DJs play the same record... That has always been in that way, but through unlimited broadcasts and livesets these days, they notice it now...
I think that the internet made it very hard for DJs te become original, cause everything is on the net. Only the big names can play new tracks on cdr (i mean GOOD quality new tracks.) Even promo's are on the net before the official release. I am not saying that this is wrong, but people should realize that they created this situation. They download everything, miss nothing and complain about sets with the same and no new tracks.

If i listen to tracks from 1998 or something, the quality of the sound is not as good as the quality of the sound of now. Its getting better and better IMO. The tracks from those good old days are still good, but I am talking about the quality of sound...

agreed 100%

Too much prog going around by DJs who became famous for their trance. = boring.Too much super duper breakdowns=whatever...Alot of melodic trance productions but not enough quality ones have come out.So basicly if your frustuated with how much trance has changed since 99,just pop in an old cd and relive some memories. All kinds of music go through different phases and IMO I hope this phase ends fast.Peace.

It's a process that every style of music goes true , people will always say rock was used to be better and so on.

well put man, couldnt have said it better myself, every style of music goes through this, listen to our parents generation...always saying rock music just isnt the same.....it is due to the fact that when a genre is just gaining a bit of popularity and is starting out....it tends to have a unique vibe to it.....and a sense of being knew and exciting, the truth is, i dont think that the genre's actually change all that much, it is only the people that change...there is wicked trance out these days id say, and there def was back in 98-00 era...

most of trance lacks the classical elements these days. some songs still have it, but its mostly just the same shit over and over.

i moved on to progressive house, because it doesnt' sound as cheesey as trance does today. :/

Give it about 6 months I reckon and 2004 will be up there with 1999...
what needs to be done
More Classic Vocal tracks
Less Massive breakdowns.
More stuff like 99 Lieb
LESS FUXKIN REMIXES OF OLD TRACKS ALA LOOPS AND TINGS
Stronger melodies..
Less layers of synth.

melodys keep getting more cheesy, vocals are just beyond a joke, just doesnt compare :/

melodic progressive is the saviour.

Hmmm

Sometimes I think I'd agree with that (except the bit about melodic prog )

But sometimes I think that we are the ones who've changed, especially with file sharing. It used to be that you'd go out, have a good night, see some live DJ who'd blow your mind with all these kick ass tracks you'd never heard before and then there'd be positive subconscious feelings associated with those tunes for ever afterwards (hence why I still have a soft spot for cheezy shit like '9 pm til I come' because even though I know in my heart it's fuckin crap, I had so many awesomely good nights when I was very young and just starting to discover e.d.m.).

But now we've heard everything on pre release the morning after whatever superstar DJ has spun it, and by the time we get to hear it in our local clubs / on the radio then we're sick of it and we've moved on already.

However like many of you I still go all misty eyed when I listen to the Oakie '99 e.m.'s, god DAMN why can't people spin sets that send big kick ass shivers down my spine like that any more
