Chicane's sound has altered significantly over the years, his first full length was mainly chilled, with some trance influence.
Behind the Sun was much more commercial, more Trancey, and had a lot more vocals, but still maintained a decided chill tone.
Easy to Assemble is very, very commercial with less of chill/trance influence remaining. The song that most laud as the best on it, Empires, is to my ears, a reworked version of Hybrid's Finished Symphony, and not deserving of *too* much praise.
I love Chicane, and I think FFTMC and BTS are both excellent, but ETA hasn't impressed me, hopefully some 'reworking' before the formal release will help it out, but I'm not holding my breath. The album isn't *horrible* by any stretch, but it's not nearly as good as Nick's previous efforts either.
He definitely has a signature sound though, which is one of the reasons he's had such a solid following for so long, despite the lack of new releases for going on 4 years now with the pushback on the new album.
