I mean, most styles of modern music are just mutations of what started in the 60s/70s.

Although if by new and upcoming then you meant as early as the invention of the theremin in the 1920's, then I would have to disagree with you.

If by underground you mean having Tiesto's face on the cover of a teen magazine, then I'd have to disagree with you.

If by not influenced by commercialization you meant "as long as we ignore all the cheese made specifically for mainstream commercialization" then I would, once again, have to disagree with you.

Because the scene was heavily founded by drug addicts, and the music is great while on drugs, not to mention i love it to death off drugs, It is also geek music, i am a geek, and it is electronic so its like binded to my blood, yay Electronic music, i dont like the term EDM persay because i like downtempo, expirimental, and expirimental noise which is not made for dancing to say the least so EDM does not cover all electronic music accurately.

Yes electronic music is new and upcoming. It is simply the newest form of music available right now. You can trace any form of music back 10, 20, or 100 years from when it began to generate into what it is today. Electronic music, however, is the newest thing out there. All other major forms of music (weighed by # of listeners, for simplicity) have been around longer than electronic music. "Nobody listens to techno." – Eminem Before you disagree with anything, take in mind that I'm talking about mainstream here. If you think electronic was around way before say rock was, remember that we're measuring by how long it has been mainstream. Electronic has NOT been around as a MAINSTREAM genre (# of listeners) longer than anything else. THUS, my point stands, electronic is new and upcoming. It is only now becoming a mainstream genre by # of listeners. This is why I enjoy it, because it is the newest thing out there and is still being defined. Only avid listeners of electronic can tell you the real differences between trance, hard trance, techno, classic techno, techno trance, house, deep house, progressive house, acid house, etc. What electronic music is and the various branches of electronic music are still being defined. So as a fan of electronic music, I can watch this happen and watch the music progress. OH. I'M RIGHT. WHAT NOW.

Yes electronic music has an underground aspect. Some dunce mentioned how tiesto's picture is on the cover of teen magazine. Personally I think he pulled a popular magazine out of his ass and made that up, but regardless. Electronic started underground, and still has a major underground aspect. Raves are illegal most places and have largely been illegal, being held in illegal places. For the most part rave = electronic. I don't recall ever hearing about a rave where hip-hop is played. If you argue that raves do not have any underground aspects to them then you're just an idiot and need to stop saying stuff you have no idea about. Most DJs started out in the underground scene. They did shows at raves, clubs, and other places; their name was spread by word of mouth. Eventually when they accumulate enough street credit you begin to see them on the cover of teen magazine. Anyways, the underground aspect is one of the reasons I like electronic music. I love hearing about an unpublicized rave or dance from my friends. I don't much hear about underground rock concerts, you can usually find all those on MTV. OH. I'M RIGHT. WHAT NOW.

As it stands right now electronic music is not heavily influenced by commercialization. It is beginning to be so, look at Moby (we are all shooting stars? Give me a break; sell out). For right now electronic is not going commercial. A DJ that makes 100k per show does not need to rely on CD sales. Not to mention that most of electronic is distributed through the web (because it's underground and you won't find everything where you live!). I used to listen to a lot of rock too, but not so much anymore. The commercialization of rock has completely destroyed the genre. It's all about the record companies and making money now. If you think this is a superficial reason for liking a type of music, then maybe you should rethink your own reasons. If you just like something because you like it, maybe you like it because you're being told to like it. When I listen to electronic, its just about the music. The DJs are homegrown and dedicated to their art. OH. RIGHT AGAIN.

Finally, an aspect of electronic I forgot to mention is it is WORLD WIDE. I can not think of any rappers from Finland, country singers from Ireland, or Australian hip-hop. With electronic, you get world-class djs from all over the globe and their culture can play a part in their music. That's more than great, that's phenomenal.

So these are my clear cut reasons for why I enjoy this genre. All of them put together makes for such a wonderful experience I couldn't possibly enjoy more. But again, all of this aside, forgetting about all of it, I'd still love electronic music and I wouldn't be able to tell you why. It's just my style, and that is the calling of a true fan.

Underground is the worst term you could use to describe the presend day scene the only era i see the electronic music comunity as underground was in mid 70's to early 80's when it was large enough to be an established scene, the genres were emerged enough to have their distinctions and it was not in the eyesite of law,

present day the EDM scene is far from such, the "RAVES" being illegal illustrates this fully and all the wouldbe jocks turned raver are another thing, the presence of alcohol amidst the EDM scene is the final proof you need that it is not "underground" anymore, alcohol is the epidome of social mainstream, the original EDM scene no one drank, they took drugs, drugs that scare the average joe, the music is nice on these drugs as anyone who still has that breed in them from days of old, nowadays the scene because the dipshit mainstreamers have flooded it is widely publicised as bad because dipshits come along, drink alcohol take a tab or hit and omg they died, thank god they die, the place is better off with out them but because this enviroment is more primative than some walks of the world, it is survival of the fittest and the scene being founded by intelects and rejects often houses no room for drunks, at least for some time, now laws have made the scene mainstream virtually all over the world, making it yet another, alcohol tobacco OK scene and other shit bad, taboo when parodoxically funny, if the cocksuckers who abuse alcohol knew that the toxicity levels of it are far worse than most recreational drugs they would probably live alot longer in the scene.

Comercialism is rancid through out several of the primary electronic genres, others keep their purity for the most part, but all in all music in many walks is about making money.

Islands such as goa, small low key clubs which spin lesserknown electronic music are the only areas the original scene can be seen,

Here is the thing, originally it was a hedonistic primitive ritual, this hardly exists anymore, for some of us it is still there, but you have to hunt for that true pure feeling it has since hid itself from the world which shuns it.

As for your finish rappers, i can come close, Loop Troop, rappers from sweden whom rap in english,
Delux rappers from germany,
NTM, more famous in france than any other music artist, whom have actually gained government attention, not a scene, a solo group has had laws passed against them,

Living Legends in the US bring in much revenue while remaining away from MTV and the likes of mainstream.

Banda Recodo, has sold out internationally from Japan to Berlin all the way to Sinaloa Mexico where they are from, they are one of the most famous music acts in the world but the average music listener may know more about Electronic music than their productions,

I have heard DJs who spin banda, this may consemate them as electronic genres, as they get remixed so how can they be underground if the whole world knows them.

here is the low down, music is world wide, where there is graffiti, there is hip hop influence, and brisborne, sydney, londen, buenos aires, amsterdam, rotterdam, brussels, berlin, nuremberg, paris, new york, LA, san diego, mexico city, tijuana, even places in the middle east have graff, Graff is underground that is tight nit, has slang only us graffers know, it is a culture that only the people whom do it are a part of. this can no longer be said for EDM, so hip hops 4th element remains underground, no graff writer has ever been on a teen magazine cover,

EDM has many branches with no heart or soul in it, hence it doesnt embody quite what you claim, however it is a unique style of music which we all love, just dont doubt the hip hop scene as you did, because it is as broad as the electronic scene or broader, the only reason you havent heard of MCs from the regions you listed is because you havent looked, there isnt a country on this earth save for a few third world regions which have no music industry that hasnt been touched by hip hop

Sorry but this question is a bit silly... About the tastes of ppl it's difficult to explain why do you like it or not. The thing is variety is good, could be very boring a world with the same tastes in music. So there are ppl who like trance, house, r'n'b, rock or whatever style and that's good cos' if you are boring of a style you can listen other.

Noo for you it's better than r'n'b!! A r'n'b lover for example would say trance is shit, but it's a wrong idea.... why is better?? nothing in tastes is better or worst, you just like more and that's all but its not better or worst.
