my hotmail account filters junk quite well and i only get "spam" from things that I have recently signed up for. My hotmail is essentially the email I use when I have to.

Then I have my domain email accounts, 3 of them. One of them gets spammed at the rate of perhaps 100-200 emails a day but Mozilla catches about 90-95% of them typically and I just delete the rest. The only pain is that it takes longer to check my mail because I have to wait for all 100 mail messages to be found filtered and deleted.

Paying is rediculous because once it starts it doesnt stop. Its like stamps. They were 10 cents back in the day then they need more money so they keep raising the price. It would be the same way and it just opens the doors for all kinds of taxes and other fees.

no way this will work. it smells like capitalists attempting monarchism. they can *smeep*off. this violates our constitutional rights especially have a centralized mgmt system which can read your emails unless encrypted.

Assume that someone would manage to implement this idea, either by incorporating it into the current mail-system (good luck), or by creating an alternative system (and get everybody to use that instead of the old, free system [good luck again]), it would take about 2 days before someone would develop an new (free) system.

One would end up with the same problem as they have now with p2p filesharing. Each time someone manages to shutdown a p2p network, several new appear.
You're foolish if you think nobody will pay for spam free e-mail.

Gates talked about this in a book he wrote in the early nineties... Finally getting around to making it a reality. 1penny per email is chump shit and I doubt it will even cover the infastructure costs. It will cut down on those fucking retarded messages your coworkers and friends send you to...

Your e-mail never has been private to begin with... Unless you encrypt? what's your point.

Hmm... easy, how about blocking unauthorized (mail servers) SMTP/POP tcp/ip ports? FYI: those are ports 25 and 110, in case you were wondering.
