Smoking ..umm..something

I would have to agree with Suzaku strongly, Mars And Mystre didnt make Cybertrance, they're trying to bring it back, in the Early 90's they started bringing the scene back at a local bowling alley ont he haight and they've been re-digging up the Cyber Vibes. They opened up Frequency-8 in like the late 90's and it started getting the SF scene realy involved. Those guys ARE pioneers. Too bad Mystre has been hanging in Seattle for the past half year, I would have more respect for him if he hadnt left to open another store. But hey, hes still trying to make the scene bigger. any SF people listen to subsonic on saturday nites on Live105?

Whooaa!!!

...and I thought I was confused b4 this thread started! If I had to offer my view...well, I would say progressive is anything that takes the music in new directions (not commercial or mainstream). I mean take the word itself PROGRESSIVE-it means progressing or moving on...

Trance Djs: Tiesto, Armin, Corsten, Gielen

Progressive Trance Djs: Sasha, Digweed, Warren (GU Brazil set)

...just my feeble thoughts on the subject!

Satan (eek!) Aye...

I think the term "progressive" used in the way it is ('progressive trance') is meant to mean moving on, but not as in the whole genre, but as in the way the music moves itself level by level up to the climax and progressing higher and higher.

Thats my veiw

peace

Yes, Positiva! I listen to Live 105, and if you haven't heard, Mystre is back in the Bay! He was on Live 105 a couple weeks ago playing 2 new tracks, and he spun with Mars the week after.

As for my thoughts on progressive, I think it's music that takes your mind on a journey. Since everyone has different kinds of music that takes them places, everyone's progressive is different. Some of the mixes labeled progressive I've downloaded I've thought of as being too slow. I prefer a faster beat in my progressive songs.

But then, I started out with stuff called progressive house, which MIGHT be a different category than progressive trance. Or not. Or is... Hmm, confusing, ain't it?

Satan (eek!) aye... but

A lot of the music i play is what i call progressive, and i usually start a set with slower 'groove' tunes (i.e. Resistance D - You Were There... get it it is a wikid tune) to get the energy levels rising, then i work it up from there... Slow=good but not for the whole mix, need some variation!

Peace

I guess I'll stir things up a bit..
What i've heard ... to be progressive .. at least what it was referring to 3-6 years ago in toronto (my friend who was partying here in 96 said this) .. includes less (dare I say) interesting sounds .. it's more ummm.. rave-y (to create a word) than emosional.. (i.e closer to happy hardcore it the emosion that it creates (i.e more sort of exitement hecticness.. rather then euphoria).. to me anything with a "oh yeah", or "come on" sample to me means progressive for sure.. i'm not explaining myself very well just get "forever dawn" spun by SOS at Hullabaloo 9 Big Top .. coincidently my first pary btw... of napster it's usually there... if not bug me and I'll send it to swamper to see if he wants to post it ..
