The start of it was horrifically traumatising. I was in a small waiting room where I had to fill out loads of forms, then they made me stand in this machine which revolved round my head and took an all round x-ray. After that, the anaesthetist came and had a chat with me to explain what was going to happen. Then it was straight into the chamber of torture.
However, as soon as the drugs hit the system, I was away with the fairies. They gave me Fentanyl and Midazolam. Apparetnly Fentanyl has pain killing properties 80 times more powerful than morphine and the effects on the body are biologically indistinguishable from Heroin, except hundreds of time more potent! I don’t remember much of the procedure, except asking if I could laugh at one point (which they let me do) and then saying “I think I’ve died” when the heart monitor stopped bleeping when I was in the recovery room. Pain wise there was absolutely none, except for when they took to tooth out, which wasn’t exactly painful, but highly uncomfortable.
I’m really gratefull to the Nurses, Anaesthetist and Dentist (who were apparently brothers), as I couldn’t fault the way they treated me. Excellent bedside manner.
Anyway, in short I survived. Just don’t want to have to go through that again soon no matter how fun the drugs were.
