most dj's you will find either use sony's mdrv700s or senhhesers's HD25 (or somethign like that)

i use 700s and i think they mint for completly encapsulating you ear and pulsing the bass down your ear but i find i cant hear much of the bass if the beats contrast too much (ie one is hard and stabby the other is light and fuzzy), which i find now and in the styles of tunes i mix together. but all in all theyre great and i got them for 66 quid. nothing a bit of EQ cant sort till u mix it in anyway.

ive used senhessiers once and i didnt think they were much cop.

I just wanted to correct some ppl here.

Paul van Dyk uses Sony MDR7506 headphones not MDRV700 ones.

I saw some Grado headphones that were around £270 in a shop where I live and thought all the top DJs headphones would cost around £250-£300. Looking at the ones above they seem to be in the £100-£150 region

What is so good about the Grados?

Grado's are intended for audiophile use and to be used in conjunction with an external headphone amp.

As good as they are (and apparently they are the best headphones bar none), they are open backed which makes them unsuitable for use in a club environment where external noises will find their way into the DJ's ears and put off mixing etc.

You wouldn't wear an Armani suit to put up dry wall, so you're sure as shizz not going to bring a pair of $300 Sennheisers to a gig. You want something that's going to get the job done. Thankfully, Sony's MDR-V700 DJ Headphones not only get the job done, they look and feel great as well. Hmm, maybe you can wear an Armani to a job site.

I've seen Armin use HDJ1000s in march 2003 but last time i saw him he was using the sony ones. I've seen pics of Seb Fontaine using the HDJ1000s.

A lot of DJ's seem to swap between the Sony's and HDJ's IMO.

I personally use the Sony 7506 phones... i have tried them all... 700's 7505's 600's 900's technic's stanton's sen.'s and pioneers... for some reason these fit and sound great to me.. although my ears are f'ed up as far as hearing properly goes. The 700's are to bassy for me.. and they dont fit on my damn ears.. its like they squeeze them like oranges or something. I have seen BT and Cliff T use my phones.

yeh, ive used pioneers before too and i couldnt really tell much difference between the two except you have a bigger bit for your ear on the 700's.

however apparently they have a slightly better response at certain frequencies.

i have seen PVD use them as well.. but mostly i see him with the 700's on. I just love the overall sound the 7506's give u. To me its just the right amount high mids and lows. 700's really hurt after awhile.. to me their are not ment for long periods. Plus for some reason they give me the worse freakin headache ever. i wish sony would have like an "extend-a-pad" for the outside ear cups then i consider using them.

i use sennheiser hd25s, sony 700s and hdj1000s.
Pioneers are the main ones i use, sennheisers not very often-

Not all 'phones suit all venues or styles,

Tried them all , and these are the ones that suit me best-each to their own.
