unlike pop/rap downloaders, trance folks, don't go make cd's and sell it for their own profit(maybe a few fookers do), since there is alot of respect for producers and djs.
like a prevous poster said, sharing made EDM very famous now, and if labels start complaining now, means they are heading commercial path, like pop and rap, and i bet many people won't respect those labels, djs and producers anymore.
There are some trance jocks in it for the money namely dutch dj's who regularly complain about file sharing cause their greedy.

Playing an MP3 you've downloaded illegally will most likely sound like shit on a big system, esp with the VBR most MP3s use nowadays.
Not necessarily true. VBR @ 192Kbit average, is usually *better* than a track recorded at 192CBR. Why? because why use 192kbit of bandiwdth for a quiet part of the song.. where it might only need 96kbit. That saved space can then be used to encode the peack of the song at a better quality than 192.. maybe 256. Therefore, VBR is better. It uses the necessary number of bits needed foreach part of the song, thus saving both hard drive space, and even making the recording sound better!
Also, MP3's at 192kbit, whether VBR or CBR will most likely not be noticable to anyone atall, since in a club it's so loud that your ears are less capable of assertaining the quality of the sound. Even if you could - there is little difference to start with. Especially with modern versions of encoders such as lame.

Is that the reason people have started encoding their rips in VBR?

You cant do nothing...
Vinyls cost to much and if someone needs to be punished then I'd punish the record stores/labels
About rippers and such...they are can rip but I hate people who share and lecture you about support the artist blah blah BULLCRAP you hypos!
if you support the artist so much dont share and then tell other to buy the freaking music...if you share just say I hope you enjoy this tracks blah blah
if you like a track of course u can buy it and enjoy but I aint go around and tell you to support the artists...
Now I'd like to give u a link to a review with Moshic ! check his comments and the purpose of his upcoming labels

I have my own set of turntables, but I know that the majority of people who listen to trance don't. With that being said, not everyone can buy the full tracks that they want to hear because a lot of them are only released on vinyl.
It took years but finally record companies have started digital download services, but unfortunately this is AFTER the RIAA and other organizations started suing their potential customers. Unfortunately, a lot of these services offer mp3s or other files that are too compressed to sound good on a big system, and also there are many limitations to their use (i.e. you can only burn a certain number of copies if at all).
I will say this though. File sharing has gotten me into this music. If it weren't for the ability to download live sets and tracks, I would never have bought the vinyl and CD's released by the record companies who are threatening their customers. I know it's often said but it's true in my case: I've spent more money on music since the advent of file sharing.

i think up until now file-sharing has helped the EDM community i listen to mp3s then go out and buy the vinyl. But with quicker downloads better quality of mp3s and more and cheaper cd-js capable of playing mp3 this can not be good.
Also, i think in the past year or so album/compilation sales must have taken a real dent. Jono from above and beyond said why would anyone want to buy a compilation album when they can download a recent mix from their favourite dj which will include newer songs. the thing is with the internet is that is allows such a fast proliferation of tracks which also means that songs have such a short-life expectancy.
