sometimes these threads are just so ridiculous...you've gotta have some fun with them, otherwise there would be no point in coming to the COR. raid 0 - striping - allows to split your OS amongst two drives for faster access to its files.

raid 1 - mirroring - allows an automatic copy from one HD to another of "raided" drives. this + a big firewire backed-up HD stored offsite is optimum.

hehe goes up to raid 5.

basically you need 3 hds. if you take hard drive 1 and split it in half and put one half into each of the other two if HD 1 crashes, the other two can rebuild it. so all three hard drives are completely saved realtime on the other two hds at the same time


THE REALLY COOL STUFF is when you have a box of like 20 hds, and when one crashes, you can HOT SWAP them and they get rebuilt instantly and you dont have any down time...
