It's like comparing apples to oranges...Hawtin did a lot for techno, Cox has done much for the electronic sound in general.

Perhaps you are right about the scene being healthier back then. But isnt this is sad commentary on the scene in Toronto which so many people claim there isnt a problem with?

That's b/c most people on this board are referring to the "scene" as the trance/house/prog scene. That part of it is doing very well - techno, however, is still quite small.

agreed.

did they already make lineups for each complex? i don't think they did. i would assume oakey/cattaneo? in guv and cox/hawtin/acquaviva in kool haus.

and why be so negative and make assumptions? from your political rants where we assume you want us to vote pc; there are other alternatives that you don't breach.

give me a break on the flaming of oakenfold and whoever else you don't like. i've seen all these djs all over the place and they are good. i'm just glad i get to see them in toronto.

vote on june 28 and chill out on the 30th.

peace.

I beg to differ.

Ive seen them fill rooms three times the size routinely...

Ive seen lineups 4 hours long to see hawtin...

He may not be a rockstar DJ but he has a huge fan base.

As for techno not being big. I disagree. MY opinion is that there are many underserved technoheads in Toronto these days. There are also many fans of other genres within this realm who would probably go crazy for techno if exposed to it. All i ever hear from Trance fans is "PLAY HARDER!" and it doesnt get much harder than techno a la carl cox. Mauro Picotto has gone pure techno these days and has won respect from both trance AND techno fans alike.

In a sense, piggybacking the rockstar dj with cox (who is also as big but just not in toronto) may be a good thing as far as exposure goes for techno. When oakie plays a crappy boring preplanned set and then people go completely crazy to Carl Cox, it will be a perfect contrast to say the least.
