there are a few hitters who i think have a chance to make a legitimate run at TC in baseball.
Albert Pujols
Manny Ramirez
and that's really it. i would say vladimir, but only way would be if it were a slow homerun year or he got more power than usual

The Belmost stakes was merely a million bucks. I am sure that most NYY players get a lot more dough when they go home at the end of a season.
Think of it: Smarty Jones has the fourth highest winning total in all of horse racing history at 5.5 million USD. I am sure that there are plenty of players that earn more than that in a single season playing baseball.
Since there is more moeny to be made in baseball, just by running a team and winning, there are more resources available for each player and more people that are intested in becoming baseball players. Consequently, there is a much higher average ability than in horse racing. Nonetheless, there hasn't been a TC in a while in racing....

greg, exactly. there is actually an article on espn.com talking about how hard it is for a baseball player to get the triple crown.
he took the leaders in the three tc categories for the last 8 seasons. in the national league, the avg was .365-56 HRs-146 RBIs. in the american league, .350-52-149. in the history of baseball, only 1 player has reached those marks in one season: Jimmie Foxx in 1932.
but man... if that ever does happen in baseball...
