I'm not really sure what to make of this performance. Half of me is happy that we won 3-0 without ever really getting into second gear, but the other half is concerned that the Swiss really exposed our weakness in defending set-pieces.

Vassell is staking a good claim for Owen's place, but you know that when Owen is on form he is a much better player. A difficult dilemma for Eriksson, but as he rarely changes his lineup I think he'll go with Owen against Croatia. I would possibly go for Vassell but it's not an easy decision.

People criticised Beckham a little harshly against France, I thought he was decent then and let's not forget he provided an awesome cross for Lampard's goal. Today his delivery was always top class, he set up the first goal by picking out Owen, who did well to pick out Rooney. Even when Beckham is playing very badly it's hard to take him off because you know he can win you the match with one brilliant cross. As a Newcastle fan I have seen this with Laurent Robert, he was on very poor form when we played PSV Eindhoven, over the two legs he did little, but in a few moments of brilliance he assisted all three of our goals to win us the tie.

I can't think of a better captain than Beckham I'm afraid, Gerrard is too inexperienced at this level. Sol Campbell is the only possible alternative in my view, he is calm in difficult situations, experienced and a very reliable player.

Scholes really didn't look right today, plodding around and looking very unhappy, and just like in the France game he seemed out of sync with the rest of the team. Again it's difficult to drop a big name player like him because you know you are leaving a serious talent on the bench but he is just not worth his place in midfield at the moment. I hope he proves me wrong but I would drop him and go for Hargreaves or Dyer on the left, or try Ashley Cole there with Wayne Bridge behind him. We need a bit more potency on that side of the field and Scholes has looked half asleep in the last two games.

I hear the Swiss are bitching that Scholes was offside on the first goal.

Anyway, Hargreaves is looking better than Scholsey, as is Vassel compared to Owen. Aside from Owen's nice cross to Rooney, he has done fuck all in this tournament. David James still makes me nervous everytime there's a free kick or corner.

But all we need is a draw. The Croats are going to come at us because they need the win, but I'm sure we can hold them to a nill-nill or 1-1 draw, just like we did with Nigeria in 2002. I hope we play Greece in the quarters.

To be fair Scholes was in an offside position and the cross was coming towards him so he was interfering with play.

I'd much rather play Greece as well, even if they have pulled off two upsets in two games I'd still be a lot more confident than I would facing Spain or Portugal.

But we have to concentrate on Croatia first, they showed they can be a strong team when they want to be.

We were crap end of story, but we won so

Nobody seemed to know where they were playing, especially the whole midfield. Campbell and Terry looked like they had never met before nevermind played in the same team. Beckham had one of the worst games i have seen him play, he did absolutely nothing except that pass to Owen for the first goal. Owen looks so out of form its silly, would much rather see Vassell start against Croatia, but we no its not gona happen.

Rooney played fantastic tho and his second goal was mint. All we have to do now is ping the ball at Buttina's head and we've got the full house

Got my prediction right as well
