You can find a pair that is 25 yrs old that will still be beat perfect and feel like new.

I have tried other turntables. nothing feels or behaves like a techs when you give it a nudge or swipe the platter.
I make a point of trying each and every turntable and new piece of eqpt. when it enters the market- it makes sense to know any possible tools i may encounter.

Incidentally only one club ive worked at had anything other than a 1200/1210 which was vestax- and i hated the feel of them+ the straight tonearm was annoying. Platter felt too heavy too. Perfectly useable, but going up against an established and very highly regarded industry standard.

Any club that fitted numark turntables would be laughed at im afraid- thats a fact. Its still not regarded as pro audio by the people that matter. It also has no proven reliability record.

lets use an analogy here:

Say you are an olympic runner. You practice for years running while wearing wooden clogs-
Then when the big event comes you ( for the first time ever) wear top of the line running shoes
You find these awkward and alien- you struggle to use them effectively and consequently BURN in front of everyone..

If it aint broke- dont fix it.

sorry, but that sounded EXACTLY like someone who is afraid of change

it seems like it is the standart.. cause it is the standart. nobody wants to change it because they don't want to be dissed.

when someone comes up with decks that are as good as techs without all the gimmicky crap they're putting on decks now for a cheaper price that last just as long then i think everyone will switch over

the problem is that for them to "last that long" it'll take 20 years

no not at all

Its 6:00am and ive just got home from work.
I was using a pair of 1210s continuously from 8pm - 3am, and as usual, they were faultless, as they have always been in my years of using them night in, night out at work.

When some one makes a turntable as user friendly, as accurate,as responsive and as reliable, and also accepted as the professonal industry standard- without all the unneccesary crap that is increasingly appearing on turntables nowadays- then ill happily use them, and i imagine many others will.
Until then ill continue to use, and recommend in the highest possible capacity, technics over any other turntable.

Change for the sake of change is pointless and ultimately flawed.

This will go round in circles for ages- so ill leave it at that and say no more.

Right im off to bed-:yawn
peace out people

I bought Numark TTX-1's for my first set of Turntables. I was going to get Techs but I had a great deal on the TTX-1's. $250 each new. Can't really beat that. Besides I wasn't sure if I wanted to pursue this as a career anyway. I just wanted decks to spin on for my own enjoyment and offered the most for my money. So far my Numark TT's work perfectly for me. I don't view them as as temp tables until I upgrade. They helped me learn how to spin and I really do enjoy them. Besides, I don't spin at clubs and not too many people ever watch me spin unless I do parties for friends. If I ever decide I wanted to make a career out of this I might get Techs. Right now I don't need expensive decks and I don't regret it. However, if my Numark TT's ever break I am sure I will invest in Techs then. It all depends on you though. If you to get Techs do it. But, of you want some cheaper decks that will work just as good try to get a good deal on them. If not, get the Techs. If I didn't get a good deal on the TTX-1 I would have gotten Techs no questions asked. However, I got myself some pretty good decks that should last me a few years.

takes about 5 minutes.

and zild: other decks are as good as technics, and if you don't like the "gimmicky crap" then don't use it! what you might call "gimmicky crap" is actually very useful to people who play their music using more than one brain cell.

Well... turntables are turntables - in the end they all have the same basic functions. It all comes down to one's skill to adapt then... you might need a couple of tracks on the decks to "warm up" but it shouldn't be that much of an issue after it.

Its a cost of a new techs Mk5Gs...

I've been using a couple ST-100's for 8-months and have no complaints. At first I thought the 16% & 25% pitch adjust would come in handy, but have purposely avoided used it. The same goes for the pitch bend. I didn't want to get accoustomed to features on the Stantons's that I would not find on house decks, which would most probably be Techs. I friend of mine has a couple of Techs and I can certainly tell the difference between them. Me thinks it's because of the analog vs digital nature of the decks. If I had it to do over again... I'd go with the Techs.
