How about you call it IEM, or intelligent electronic music. I disagree with the dancing bit.
Dance music is for people (presumable like most of us here) who like to mash our brains with drugs ( i.e. not intelligent ) and jump about ( i.e. dance ). I think if they played Aphex Twin in a club then I'd be to scared to do anything but sit alone sobbing in the corner.
I'd suggest that IDM is to Trance what Jazz is to Funk.
More on topic, have you listened to Squarepusher? Hard Normal Daddy is a simply awesome album, amazing blend of hard electronic jazz and abstract sound. definitely trying something new there.
For people interested in starting to explore the IDM sound, of which is disgustingly varied and huge, here are the biggies (and besties):
µ-ziq - Lunatic Harness
Aphex Twin - Richard D. James Album
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92
Autechre - Confield
Boards Of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children
Squarepusher - Hard Normal Daddy
Venetian Snares - Winter In The Belly Of A Snake
Ranging from relatively chill downtempo to raging drill 'n' bass. All incredibly good music.

Can't we all just get a bong?????????
Seriously, thoug, I thought that IDM meant "Industrial Music" (like Front 242, NiN, Skinny Puppy, etc).
