thanks two-plow I knew that you'd be able to help 
I knew that they were cymbals but i always call them hats for some reason. the one in inkeys sounds like a ride cymbal or whatever. shit, i wish I knew something about drums. I've always wanted to know where about you are supposed to use a ride cybal in a song. for example a crash represents the start of a new section so what sort of feel is the ride supposed to give?
oh well... as for the snare in girl/boy song ive tried that before i usually seperate the reeverb into a different sound file and use it as a snare extension which can be gated when needed but the only problem is it still sounds too much like a reeverb instead of a snare extension. I've tried making the room size smaller but it still sounds too seperated 
I reckon I just need to wait until I can afford my electric drums
