I'm going to have to disagree with Scottaculous and TranceLuver3evr for the first time here.
I thought his set was absolutely amazing. It wasn't just the typical DJ finding the queue point and cross-fading between vinyls that we've heard already over and over again for 2 hours. Zabiela showed his amazing technical skill through his insane scratching, his awesome sense of humor (which was apparent in most of his samples which i'll describe below), and his improv ability. If anyone here plays drums/percussion, you'd also appreciate how tight his stratches, loops, and samples were (like i did).
Overall, I loved some of the samples he used last night. The first track opened with a repeating robotic voice going "Base"..."Base"..."Base"..."Base"... I don't think many people there realized that it was the voice from the "All Your Base Are Belong To Us" flash animation. Second, he looped Christopher Walkin's best line from the Blue Oyster Cult skit off of Saturday Night Live. "I got a FEVAH, and the ONLY prescription is more cowbell!" Towards the end of the night he played Blur - Song 2. And the crowd went nuts, myself included. GOOD song! The original is only 2 mins long, i'm glad he made it a bit longer!
And i have to mention James Zabiela's shirt from last night. It was god damn hysterical. It read:
Hiroshima '45
Chernobyl '86
Windows '95
WOOHOO!!!!
