I agree with a lot of the things in your post, but the above is simply not true. Each religion espouses its view as THE view of the world. The Christians believe in the judeo-Christian God of Abraham, and believe in Jesus as the messiah who died for the redemption of everyone's sins. They believe that all those of other beliefs ("heathen"), who do not accept Christ will go to hell. Muslims have similar beliefs about the "infidels". Similarly Jews believe that they are the only people chosen by God. Buddhists and Hindus believe that all are subject to the cycle of rebirth, whether they believe in it or not. Religious views are necessarily in conflict, because by definition religions seek to find an objective description of the universe from a spiritual perspective.
Another unavoidable fact is that religions were at some stage used to move people to war. This is a part of the reason they were created too. To unify a people and to give them a cause to fight for and claim property in the name of. So to call all religions essentially peaceful is to ignore their history. I would suggest, however, that it is merely time we evolved and used theology as a philosophical tool to contemplate the spiritual. We no longer sacrifice animals or stone prostitutes - religions should evolve with society. Most religions and religious texts contain valuable philosophical insights whether you believe in a God or not, this personal development should be the role of religion in the 21st century... it shouldn't be the primitive tool of control it was at it's inception.

Atroboy, I guess I did leave out the fact that each religion does glorify its own doctrine.

im Hindu so maybe i can shed a different opinion.

first of all, hinduism is a very accepting religion. go into our temples and you will see statues of Lord Buddha, someone who was born a hindu and then rejected it and formed his own religion. so why should we honor him so? becuase he was a great man nonetheless...and that is what counts. hindus dont believe you will go to heaven or hell just by who you call your God. We call God Bhagvan, Christiands refer to him as Jesus many times, and Muslims as Allah. in reality, we are all refering to the same being, just in different names.

its funny because most of my friends are christiand and was shocked to find that some of them said that they believed that anyone who wasn't christian would go to hell. so i said even though i am clearly not a bad person deserving to SUFFER FOR ETERNITY i will still go to hell just because i dont use the name Jesus when i pray. that just dumbfounds me and even angers me to a degree.

all i can do is have tolerance for those who think i will eventually go to hell becuase there is not point to hate those who "hate" you.

Well Christians refer to him as God, and it is the same God that Islam calls Allah in Arabic, and the same God that Jews believe in. Jesus is also part of the same in a way... but I won't get into trying to rationalise the trinity here. But back to the point.. I think Hinduism is an awesome religion. In a sense everyone who believes in any God is Hindu, because anything you could possibly worship is necessarily a manifestation of Brahma. India is an amazing country... probably the best definition of the phrase "cultural melting pot" that has ever existed. I'd love to visit one day.

They do not necessarily hate you. It's far more annoying than that I'm afraid Traditionally Christians are taught to hate the sin, but love the sinner. SO they see you as damned by your heretical beliefs, and may even see it as their duty to try to get you to convert and save your sould from eternal damnation. That can be really annoying. I get mad Korean evangelists trying to invite me and my friends to their Bible-study sessions regularly.

Well, according to traditional Catholic doctrine, it does not matter whether he believes in hell or not, it still exists and as long as he doesn't accept the Lord Christ as his personal saviour he will go there. Just like whether or not I believe Nepal exists, the fact is it does, and if someone wanted to they could send me there against my will, even though I didn't believe in its existance.

what!? this is rediculous. Basically, you said that christian beliefs previal over all others.
