Ok, ChewdOg you win...but before you start smiling to yourself, considering your praises about Paul Van Dyk, please....right about now, go put on the 45RPM, Seven Ways or OutThere and Back CD or LPs. Take a close listen to them...Ok...
Next, from my point of view, after reviewing all three albums, I find nothing sensational except for For An Angel, Another Way....and I am sure many other great and overplayed tracks..You see here, there is no doubt that PVD came out and started producing trance anthems first...well, a long history since the late 80's if you wanna be specific. There is one reason for that, that is Germany(his hometown) embraces trance way back than any other country...even The Netherlands...therefore, the market is in demand of trance tunes....well, there you go, Paul Van Dyk. Phew, that was long...btw, Paul Van Dyk has gone mainstream (also known as COMMERCIAL) long time ago....
Anyways, my point in asking you to take a listen to PVD's productions is to ask yourself....is he churning out the same progressions or is it a total different kind of feel each time you forward onto the next track? Well, the reason why I think that you think that Tiesto is so over-rated is because: 1) He's Talented (Just like PVD,Corsten)
2) He generates new progressions of sounds
Back to point of new sounds...ChewD0g...please I want you to go grab a hold of PVD's Columbia EP....take a listen....and then throw in Tiesto's In My Memory.....and vice versa again...this time....please take note of the progression....and see if you were behind that program...will you be able to think of sequencing that beat...chances are you will be able to produce more PVD tracks than you could ever with Tiesto's tracks...One more point I would like to add is that Tiesto's works from way back, his collaborations could easily surpass PVD's 2 albums in the 90s....it's just his choice on whether to flood the market with trance tunes.
Ok..don't be mistaken, PVD in my opinion, is still an alright producer...but I really regretted spending 20 US on his Columbia EP when all I hear is 1999's sounds..seem all too familiar now, doesn' it...
I rest my case.....you win
