...and to keep this on the subject, I got into EDM because of MDMA. I then listened to it so much that even when the MDMA was gone, I could still feel the music like I was there again... an indescribable feeling. I attribute the main reason I listen to EDM to MDMA. It got me into the scene in the first place.

Man you speak the truth here. I was into EDM before drugs, but drugs take the music to another level. Those who have never tried them cannot understand. Drop some LSD, sit in your computer chair, put on a cool media player visualization and queue up 8 hours of your favorite trance MP3s. It will give you a whole new appreciation for the music.

drugs and EDM can be like best freinds or feuding siblings.

match up trance and MDMA, or even pot or shrooms, it can be a majorly mindblowing experience.... especially the MDMA which is my personal fav :P but some of the other poisons availible for consumption on the market i just dont jive with. now i havent been stupid enough to try these and i dont plan to but from what i have seen from freinds and people in general being basted on them. they ruin the vibe. COKE being the worse. one of my good freins is a huge yayo head and he is hte biggest asshole when he is on it. mind you id be pretty pissed if i paid 80 bucks for 20 minutes of high.... but he gets iritable pushy etc. the best drugs are the social ones. if you want to drop at a party, and if your going to do it anyways, at least do one that doesnt turn you into a introvert.

i partied for 3 years sans drugs at all, not even weed at parties. and now i will drop on special occasions only, but 99% of the time i do it in a very responsible maner... just not at wemf... the worst thing to happen while using drugs at a party is not remembering the party the next day.... its never happened to me, even when i get bricked right out, i still remember it all. but i have alot of freinds who dont remember evenings because they just did too much.

but dont form opinions of people who choose to do drugs. 4 years ago i never thought i would have tried what i have to date, and most of them i tried once and decided not to do again, but im glad i had the experience.

Well, I dont take drugs, mainly because of how the media tell me my brain is going to melt if i do - permenant damage blah blah blah.

I think that if you're responsible and careful, you can do whatever you want as long as you don't hurt other people or be judgemental towards people who do/don't have the same thoughts on this topic as you.

I also think... that the whole negativity towards people who are occasional drug users is a bit ridiculous. Its their body/life, if thats what they enjoy they should be free to do it.

But yeah, if someone feels the need to pop E's like panadol then theres a deeper issue going on in their life, and i don't support becomming a pill monkey to solve problems

anyone who can still spin well on drugs gets the utmost respect from me. i have tried before, and especially with E my sets are stupidly long, and i will play tracks in their entirety because i cant bring myself to fast mix out of it. the worst case scenerio was wheni decided to play blank and jones - nightfly (pants and corset remix) and energy 52 - cafe del mar (nalin and kane mix) back to back (two huge 9 minute bathroom tracks) my mixing was good its just that the sets didnt get to technical cause i was enjoying the music too much. i cant spin on weed or alcohol tho, that stuff makes me stupid.....

here here.

I think it's kind of ridiculous that people associate music genres to lifestyles (except maybe in the case of punk, which is BS anyways). I know just as many people who are into EDM who don't do drugs as I know people who are. I for one, do not do drugs, and find drugs kind of useless and I DO judge people for using them mainly because most druggies I know are total dickheads, that and drugs have changed a lot of my friends for the worst, so I'm kind of biased against them. If, however, someone can show me they're still a decent person, it wouldn't bother me as much, as long as I'm not around while it's being done. I get physically sick to my stomach when people talk about doing drugs or are doing drugs.

So you judge 90% of the people I know, who have been my best friends for over 10 years (I am only 21), whoa re the soundest and nicest bunch of people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing?

grow up

I HATE being lumped into a stereotype just because I enjoy a fair amount of drugs.

I've been on average a heavy user for the past 6 years, chilled down alot recently, was caining it when i was 18.

the term druggie is horrible, as if anyone who takes is a gibbering no-hoper like those in trainspotting or requim for a dream

got news for you, in this day and age, you're prolly looking at about a 50% usage in the sub 30 years old age demographic. this obviously varies from country to country, but you'd be surprised how many ppl outside the EDM scene do drugs

i dont condone the drug-related extremes we hear about (of course we cant hear abot whenever nothing bad happens when ppl take drugs, even tho like 80% of those at say a huge party that are doing something, walk out unscathed), but if we want do do whatever, and it has no direct negative affect on other ppl, go for it

i get more worried walking through central london in the early hours of saturday morning for fear of being attacked by a bunch of drunk tossers

tobbacco kills more people in the US than coke, heroine, aids, crack combined

i thik that alot of drugs are way over hyped by the media. coke i wont do, but drugs like MDMA for example have all these american studies "prooving" that it causes parkinsons, holes in the brain etc etc..... they are bastardized test results. those tests were conducted by a DEA funded doctor who was testing monkees with pure liquid speed, injected in stupid amounts....

there are however tests done with humans in germany where they actually did folicle testing on all subjects to assure they were only doing E and found a 4 to 8 % decrease in seratonin activity in heavy users (every week) but after 6 months of no drugs, they returned to normal. Also between 1989 and 1994 and estimated 2.4 million pills of x were consumed in the NYC area, and there are only 2 deaths related to it and they were heat exhaustion and dehydration from people on e who did not drink enough water.

imo the only problem with drugs is the criminal element who sells / manufactures tehm. profitablility drives dealers to cut everything and sell shitty drugs thats the only danger. but get a decent pill test kit, buy from people you trust... or in my case pharmaceutical chemists... and test it before you drop it. there is obviously still risk involved but the odds are better that you will die in a plane crash

i tried to be as neutral as possible, but it appears that some people are sensitive to the issue...

i myself think that weed had something to do w/me getting into EDM...when i was 18, i heard lost tribe - gamemaster on napster, and i found that it was on an oakenfold mix, so i went and bought tranceport and i got addicted to driving around smoking hitters, blaring oakenfold...it did help me connect to the music...my eyes were opened...

i guess i read a stupid fking book at the library called "this is not a rave" and it was a documentary style book by a raver herself, and the whole book was about raves and drugs...

that made me question where i fit into the scene, being from a smaller city with no scene and moving to a city with a moderate scene.

i know alchohol is as big of a problem as drugs are....i've known people who've died from alchohol related problems as well as drug-related problems....as have most people...

i love to drink responsibly whenever, or at EDM events...makes it easier to dance.....i love to drink whiST spinning...

it just sucked to see people taken away on stretchers when they came to have fun...

i was at an outdoor EDM festival last weekend, and saw a lot of people on drugs, was offered to buy coke, X, weed, asked if i had coke, X, acid. i saw a person get taken out on a stretcher to an ambulance, and heard about 3 other people taken away. Heard there was bad acid going around. Saw this girl puking all over, FREAKING out, and crying....and it wasn't from too much alchohol.

i knew that this event would attract a lot of hardcore ravers and i knew drug use was to be expected...

and i don't have anything against druggies unless they are a burden to society...I, myself smoked pot frequently from age 16-20...i am curious about trying X, but probably won't do it...i don't think a little weed really hurts anyone...

but i was wondering what percentage of EDM fans are drug users, and more specifically, what percentage of TAs are...also peoples views on drugs/users, and the relation to EDM...

Just be....man...just be.

ps - I agree with throwing away hip hop culture
