In the case of hybrid cars electricity is generated every time you use your brakes to slow down.
For a full electric car, at a power plant using what ever fuel that is convenient. The advantages are too numerous to list. One that comes to mind is you don't waste fossil fuel sitting at a traffic light or in traffic jam.
| I'm pretty sure there is a generator in there charging the batteries wheveer the motor is running, then when there is a full enough charge the motor shuts off and it runs off of battery power. Also at stop lights or whenever you are stopped the motor turns off and runs off of battery power.
Real freakiin complicated system.
