And in regards to those guys in school that didn't have a plan...well it's not so easy. It's easy to say you should plan if you're actually KNOW what youre planning for...a lot of people really don't know what they want - therefore they can't actually plan anything. On the other hand some people do know and plan it well, but what if things change, what if the end result is now something different. Some people just don't know when to stop and think, and say...gee that plan isn't good anymore...so they end up old and thinking, wait a minute...I've been chasing the wrong thing in my life. I definitely wouldn't want to be that guy.

To those people that just herd themselves to higher educations because 'all the other kids are doing it' I say, wait.
Find a job (any job) and then find something they're passionate about.
Don't go through the motions in the 1st couple years of school hoping they'll find something later they 'might' like. Then because they've left the decision too long, land up taking 'something' they might like.
Those are the people that land up changing in the middle of a career choice they really weren't passionate about to begin with.
While they may end of up happy they've now doubled their debt. in the end...

It's a tough decision.. You're finished high school and thrown out into the real world. I THOUGHT I knew what I wanted to do, however things have changed. I graduated from College and went onto work in a completely different field. These last 3 years have been time well spent. I've made some money and figured out what this crazy world is all about. I have a passion and now I REALLY know what I was made to do. The big decision now is: I quit my 9-5, go back to school and fufill my dreams or I stick it out for the sake of my paycheck and hate what I do for the rest of my life? I guess my decision would be easier if I had someone to take care of me for 3 years while I'm in school.

Any way that you could start with night classes or home study?
E-learning classes are a great start...

I think it is impossible to know exactly what you want to do... because every situation every second in time changes your outlook on life... every experience makes a person different...

Me for example... at 2 I wanted to be a firetruck (yes i said truck not man... i wanted to be a firetruck)

At 6 I wanted to be an Electronic Engineer

At 12 I wanted to be a Mechanic

At 14 I wanted to be a Cruise Director

At 17 I wanted to be a Bar Owner

At 18 I opened a bar and Wanted to be an Electronic Engineer again

At 19 I wanted to be a Mechanic again...

It constantly changes... because of experiences... how do you justify forever based on a series of moments from the past

Meh, a lot of money doesn't mean success.... the true measure of someone is the type of people they are surrounded by, and how they are regarded by those around them.
