Despite what the media wants to say about players. At that level all of them should be good or they wouldn’t play for their National side. It's not like Portugal is sending the local YMCA team to the Olympics, every single player is signed with a prestigious club and they are ALL professionals. And the last I checked it takes a team to win a game. The game lasts 90 minutes - one or two players, I don’t care if its Pele, won't be the only ones playing the entire game.

i think you're kinda lost there.. saying that "they are good or they wouldn't play for National side" doesn't make sense, which national side, the A team or the olympic team? Out of the under 23 players that are on this Portugal squad about 3 or 4 have played for the A team, and that number is bigger than usual cause this generation is exceptional compared to previous ones. and out of those only Ronaldo is a regular A team player! it's very obvious that the squads on here are way weaker than the A teams - at least for the european sides, the Argentina team seems to be capable to defeat anyone that steps in their way hehe.

the fact that they're professionals is absolutely pointless, in portuguese leagues everyone is professional in both superleague and second league (correspondent to the english first division). to add, it is not true that every single player is signed to a prestigious club, unless you consider teams like Leiria, Belenenses and Gil Vicente to be part of that

I don't like it when people try to make excuses for their teams. It's part of the game. If everyone played like robots it wouldn’t be a good game. So stop making excuses and accept the fact that Olympics or no Olympics start of the season or end... the level at which 99.9% of the players are at is as high as you are going to go. So even though a few famous players are missing doesn’t make the tournament bad at all.

who's making excuses? i've said before, portugal played like absolute shit, the lack of fitness had a little part on it, but it was just too plain awful to be true. actually i mentioned the lack of fitness not to excuse portugal but to give another reason why the olympic tournament is way less competitive than european championships and world cups (though in the end of the season there are fitness worries as well, the thing is that players focus a lot more their training on those tournaments rather than the olympics when the clubs prepare them rather for the rest of the season)

The game is about the team not the individual.

yep, that's why teams like greece and porto have suceeded recently over "teams" of "superstars"

9 goals conceded in 3 games against costa rica, morocco and iraq. 3 aggressions plus 2 unrelated sent offs. this team is the most embarassing thing to happen in years to the whole reputation of our national sports.

why did you leave costa rica score a 4th goal

because of it Morocco didn't go to the second round

the score should have stayed 3-2 to the costaricans
